Please move if not in correct section thankyou.

Did anybody whatch the episode of the real a and e last night on sky something or other pretty late on with a guy who crashed his either new r6 or r1 ?

oh my god it was nasty it never said how the accident happened but there were lots of bikers areound him and he was supposedly new to bikes and around brum area.

his left leg was fubard just below the knee was a well nothing the hole was massive about the size if an adult male joined his thumbs and middle fingers together and there was a piece of bone about the size of a finger recovered from the scene.

after his opp in hospital his x-ray looked like a box of screws lol

he had a leather jacket on gloves boots and jeans so only damage was to his leg but i doubt leathers would have done much but id love to know how it happened.

either way it wasnt nice as i laid their snuggling my 1year old daughter really got me thinking.

Inexperienced new DAS riders going out and buying the fashionable sportsbikes without the skills needed to ride them safely?
Just shows how much damage abrasion can do, shows why leathers are necessary IMO.

Its a pretty steep learning curve going from das then jumping on a potent sportsbike like that.

Utter rubbish. I've seen people on this very forum posting again and again that they got an R6 right after getting their license and didn't crash. I've never yet seen anyone post that they got an R6 and died right away. You can't argue with that logic.

Evidently some jacked up bloke who thought that because he blatted about on a 125cc dirtbike when he was 17 that qualifies him 30 years later to pass his DAS and go buy an R1 as a first bike.

In fact, there is a reason the second highest risk group for accidents behind 16-21 year olds is 35-45 year olds, midlife crisis anyone? Rolling Eyes.

It equally irks me when I see people go: "Oh well then! I better spend <insert some time here> until I ride <insert larger cc bike here>."

That's utter bollocks. Ride what you ride but the key is if you respect your bike it will respect you by not lobbing you off and killing you, disrespect your bike and it will bite you back and it will do it hard. There are bikes more SUITABLE for new riders/learners, but there is nothing stopping something getting a superbike for their first big motorcycle if they respect it.

I've had a very VERY major accident which broke 26 of my bones including both my thighs, my neck and my back, however lo and behold 5 months later I was back on a bike.

It's not what you ride, it's how you ride it.

A gun wound? In Birmingham?

That's not very likely, is it?

Perhaps it's because the dead people can't post on here.

I warned an aquaintance away from an R1 for his first bike after das.

Within a week of getting it he was dead.

I knew it was going to happen because of his attitude. But perhaps it's more of a case that people who get R1's for a first bike have a certain type of attitude and ignorance and that's why they crash rather than the issue being the bike itself.

Did anybody see the biker on 'Real A&E' who had spilt petrol over his nether regions and over the tank of his bike.It then caught fire with him on the bike which gave him some quite nasty burns. He was afraid/paranoid about needles and refused morphine.I had a feeling that he might have been smoking while filling up and paid the consequences.More fool him for sitting on the bike while it was being refuelled.
