i bl**ody hate drum brakes, they don't work for sh*t, Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Yet again , i am monoing and go for the rear brake only to hit nothing but FR&&KING AIR Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Who makes the f**king brake pedals so small?????

i cant even feel the pedal with mx boots on ( even when it stays attached

Why doesnt it actually give me any sort of proper braking power when it works???

Why the F**K do they make the spine so f**king useless and short so that the f**king arm fall off the F&&King spine ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Its like witch craft i swear, getting them to actually perform well. 90 degrees is the ideal arm angle but still dont make any 3!!!! of the rear drums i have for the klr have any good rear brakes

Wotcha.

Strange - my drum brakes work a treat . . . . . . . maybe it's the bloody great servo I've fitted Laughing

Seriously, rear drum brakes seldom give problems. Front drum brakes are a different kettle of fish - I had to 'make do' with a twin leading shoe drum when my front hub got destroyed ( Full story here ) and I was glad to get rid of it.

I've always had rear drum brakes on my bikes (NRG Embarassed and XR125) and i find that they work fine when paired with a front disk... I'd just like to leave and forget... A rear disk would have been better for me, but seeing as most of my braking is focussed on the front (which it shouldn't be), i'm indifferent to the thought.

Most of your braking should be done with the front brake.

All the best

Ah, the joys of drum brakes! I used to have them all round on my GP100.

Stop.

My mates DT had some truly horrendous drumk brakes. I remember once we were bombing down a hill (as much as you can on a 50) and some stupid mutt ran out into the road, I hit the brakes and did a little stoppy Cool , where as my mate just plowed on for about 25 yards before coming to a halt and riding back up the hill to check he hadn't hit it. Pure luck saved the dog that day, altough the owner didn't half get a mouth full (and a few rocks chucked at his house) when he came out acusing him of riding iresponsably.

I don't think it was so much the brakes fault, but more the fact that they were worn completly out and the rider weighed 20 stone, but whatever it was they were totally useless and were the reason for a few of his crashes Rolling Eyes . I have ridden many more purely drum braked bikes with much better stopping power than that DT, but none of those were particulally great either.

Personally I have never had a problem with a front disc / rear drum set up, all the bikes I have owned (and most I have ridden) have this set up, and there is ample stopping power to lock the back wheel up when braking, even at about 40mph in the dry. Thumbs Up

I know what you mean about the brake pedal falling off, thats happened to me twice Shocked due to rust and using alraldite to fix it before I got it properly sorted. Even though its now rock solid, Im still forever paranoid its going to fall off again, and sometimes it feels like the mounting is actually bending (although its probably not really) when your braking heavilly which doesn't exactly inspire conifidence.

Cheers, Jonathan

You have to use the gears to help you slow down when using drums all round, it is quite scary when they fade and it seems as if the brake pedal is making the car go faster Smile
