Thanks for the welcome!

Good luck for your test hawke.
I thought i made several mad errors. But clearly not, got 2 minors for swan necking. and 1 minor for doing 35 in a 30 on a dual carriage way that i thought was a 40. That was at Erith.

Being completley new to buying second hand motorbikes. Is there a list of checks i can do before buying ? ie make sure the engine isnt screwed, check the frame isnt twisted etc? Looking at ktms. maybe an smc or something
are these any good?

Or anyone recommend anything else? I wont be doing any long distance journeys, the odd blast down b roads and the commute to work( its only 11 miles).

I would recommend just get a good feel for it. Check the exhausts all over for holes blowing whilst the engine is running. Give it a good reving and see if the temperature goes up too fast. Check the tyres for cracks, bulges, flat spots etc. Check the steering. Check for crucial rust spots. Bolts tightened. Check it'll actually go in to gear. Basically just check it's -safe- to ride. So far as internal engine problems are concerned, unless they're obvious, you can't check it without being incredibly thorough and so probably the seller wouldn't even know.

The problem with buying off eBay is that when you buy, you sign a contract to buy so long as the bike meets the standards described and shown.

The best you can really do, if possible, is take it for a test ride. Also, if it has an MOT certificate, read it before buying. A mistake I've made and won't be making again.

thanks.

Quick question. Im probably complicating matters.

With regards to sending my license paperwork off. I kept it rather than the examiner sending it off, as my driving license is to expire soon as my photo needs replacing.

Does this mean i need to do 2 separate forms, one for my new license and one for the photo license renewal? Then send them, but the photo license renewal and the new license are at different post codes? Or just do them one at a time. Send off for photo renewal and then send the motorbike license stuff afterwards? but that would mean a good 7 weeks before getting it all back? arghhh. Sorry for rambling.

I would just send the lot in with new photo & address etc. Remember to keep a copy of your licence in case they take off entitlements. Others on here might say send in form and say the original licence was lost. Either way its up to you.

When you fill the form in, also check the box to update photo, put a new photo in and pay your £20, job done

It should tell you on the form, I think you need to send just your mod2 pass cert and your licence, photocopy you pass cert though as its your only proof you passed, thats why its best to let examiner send it all off. Wink
