Douwe Egberts Pure Gold is the best of the instants for me, however, I usually just drink freshly ground beans of the Starbucks (easy to get at supermarkets) variety from a french press. Thumbs Up

Mellow Birds is under rated. And Carte Noire instant is quite good.

I'm not overly keen on the new Kenco Millicano shit, tastes a bit weird.

My favourite instant coffee is the Kenco Costa Rican (the aromatic shit or whatever they call it) closely followed by the Puerto Rican stuff.

I only drink normal, run of the mill Nescafe/Kenco/Whatever cheap shit they have bought if i have to and i don't have any other options.

Strange, I'd rather lick the inner rim of a public toilet than drink anything with a Kenco label.. Kenco is only preferable to Maxwell House or Asda "Gold Roast" which I had the misfortune of trying after my non-coffee drinking father was asked to buy some instant on my behalf Sick

Percol do good instant. Nothing beats fresh though; we bought a burr grinder a couple of months back and haven't used much instant since.

Blimey, covdude's managed 3 posts in a thread without being pointlessly downrated by the usual idiots.

Shocked, I am.

Man speaks sense.

I love working my magic on instant.

Coffee, sugar, milk (about an inch n half worth, quite a bit).
Warm up milk in mircrowave for 1 min whilst kettle going.
Wait a good 30 secs after kettle boils before pouring.
Stir very well.
Bang on it, slightly froathy silky smooth coffee.

That Millicano I dont like. Theres just something about it.

The Kenco Costa Rican is my second choice of coffee. They have another one out. Peruvian. Its that rich its almost chocolaty. Its bloody lovely. 2 spoonfulls of that. a couple of sugars and a dribble of milk and its like tar in a cup. Thats a real cup of coffee.

But then if I have coffee out anywhere I always ask for an extra shot of expresso because they just arent strong enough.

I tend to use instant at home because none of the machines I have found heat the water up enough. Nothing worse than a cold cup of coffee. I have mine straight out of the kettle and straight down the throat.

Pinky asbestos throat at your service Laughing

The tescrap and asbo stores tend to do the kenco Costa rican and the likes for 2 for £5.50. its not the cheapest coffee out there but it is worth the money.

Everything "gold" is nasty.

But if I am having instant I just have Tesco whatever (?Classic richroast) instant cos I dont see the point of paying silly money for instant ... if its not the real thing.

If I am having real coffee (cafetiere or Moka express machine) my preference is for Costa Rican, which seems sweeter than most others.

I'd rather just drink the cheap shite and save my cash for decent real coffee.

I'm in a reducing coffee-intake phase anyway.

Only thing that works in terms of wakey-uppey is proper short shots of espresso.

Found these in Italy:

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hR7F-MqvRzI/SRv7Gsy7j3I/AAAAAAAADlU/Hou0OwjlQ5c/s400/PocketCoffee.bmp

I don't really go much on liquid centre chocolates, and they aren't really much cop in terms of keeping awake but they're delicious ... and its good to "drop" a few in the optimistic hope that the espresso syrup might actually work Laughing
