I've seen me take the plastics off a bike and spray the entire thing with waxoyl for the winter.
Thing is, all the crap sticks to it so it looks hell of a grubby by the end of the winter. A brush over with paraffin and a hose down in the spring and you realise what a good job it did of keeping the rust off. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I'll put waxoyl on anything but the brakes and tyres. It'll burn off the exhaust.
It's been about for years, people always used to do the underside of their car with it and squirt it up the sills. It's a waxy liquid that kind of half sets when it's on the metal. I thin it slightly with paraffin and apply it with a low pressure spray gun. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I used to use Waxoyl every year until I waited too long to apply it to my CBR600 one year and the salt got to it. I couldn’t be bothered after that because the damage was done.
Waxoyl works well although you do build up an amazing crust as crap sticks to it when the engine is warm. I bought one of their 2.5l pressure tins and a pump/spray lance to apply it the last time I used it. That worked ok, but I tried to apply it when the ambient temperature was only just above freezing and, despite warming the tin in hot water, the spray was a bit too gloopy. Never thought of thinning it…
It takes some elbow grease to wash it off in the spring too. Otherwise, highly recommended. ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

I'd go for Waxoyl too, both the big can of oily stuff you spray in the hard to get places and inside the frame if possible, and there is also a Waxoyl underbody seal which is good for areas that are more exposed and get chipped (on cars it's used inside of the wings). ____________________ www.bike-shack.com - Probably the best free motorcycle classifieds website in the UK... |
