CB-1 on the blink!

Okay, so long story short, let a lad ride my bike, didnt have correct insurance, got pulled, impounded, he gave me the money to collect it... I collected it, on the way back the bike had NO power above 5k revs, just spluttered, would rev in neutral but hesitates at 6k for a split second. barely manages 70mph...
THEN I noticed I had no indicators that worked... or a neutral light... and my temp gauge wasnt working... Hang on a minute? I've lost all electrics bar the starter, ignition and headlight... everything else has gone...
the impound believes they did no damage to the bike... any ideas guys?

Checked all of the fuses? i belive the cb400 to be the same as the cbr400 and if the rev counter wiring block is lose it sends a message to the cdi as reduces the max rpm some how, may be worth a shot as i know my cbr400 wouldnt rev right without the rev counter fitted but once plugged back in it solved the problem, even tested this out on a ride once

also did your buddy do anything to the bike when he got pulled or abandoned it?

Thats exactly what my cbr did with the rev counter unplugged so it could possibly be a lose wire behind your clocks? As when the rev counter was plugged in was fine

Ask your 'mate' how it was running before he got pulled, did he try to do a runner on it? Might of been over reved etc if he did.
Might be good idea to check the charging system, make sure you are getting a14.4 volts across the battery at 3000rpm. As 'Mikey CB500' said check all the fuses. Also any connector blocks. If the bike is fitted with an alarm make sure that hasn't been damaged or tampered with.

the -1 requires the clocks to be connected, esp the speedo, otherwise the limiter kicks in and limits power to 5k rpm - its a jap restriction thing.

cheers for confirming that buddy thought it was the same as the cbr400rr nc29 jap imports , there semi electrical clocks and iff you unplug them it makes it missfire, first time i took the front end off my bike and tried running it i thought id dropped a coil or the cdi had gone lol

so yeah could certainly be a lose wire by the sounds of things buddy

or just plug a live +12v feed into the wire and run no clocks and have full power and the limiter bypassed.

mine was good for 60+ mpg on my runs, and always above 50 round town. Yes its all down to how you ride it.
