I bought a cheap helmet a few weeks ago. It came with a removable rubber mouth guard. What is this used for? To protect from dirt off the road? Or give protection in a crash? Also is it worth keeping it in? Breathing seems a little bit easier with it out.

The top one is to minimise the condensation when you breathe, the lower one keeps wind noise down and waterspray intake.

As HT said.

It's there for two reasons:

A) To prevent condensation from forming on the visor during the cold months.

B) To prevent wind coming into your helmet which reduces windnoise and stops your chin getting wet.

Take it out in the hot months, put it back in during the winter months! Thumbs Up!
