Hornet engine mounts?

A guy at work has sheared the head off the front top right engine mount bolt on his Hornet. He says the bolt had a nut on the end, but that he had removed that before tuning the bolt.

Are 600 Hornet engine mounts threaded with a locknut or is it just a nut & bolt fixing?

The mounts themselves aren't threaded as far as I know.

The only possible way he could have managed that if he had removed nut would be that he didn't support the engine as he removed it. Even then he's do rather well. I've not supported the engine on them when I've whipped those bolts out and never had a problem. However they do advise you to support the engine with a trolly jack or similar.

Well he's sheared the bolt head clean off and managed to destroy the spacer between the frame and engine in an effort to get moleys on the bolt shank, which of course did nothing except chew that up a good'un as well. He's bringing the bike in to work tonight so I can have a proper gander at it. It's been winder ridden so I suspect the bolt is corroded into either the motor or frame mount.

Indeed, that's my thread. The engine mounts are just a hole with no thread, so the bolt goes through it and has a nut on the other end. My engine bolt had corroded to the engine mount and I had to drill the bugger out.

Holy cow I've never seen such corrosion on a modern bike!

Anyway, looks like my guess was right it's frozen in the frame lug. He did tell me that he'd tried to bash it out and I told him he's lucky he didn't shear off the mount.

Cheers for that - I'll tell him to break out the hacksaw and drill.

Well the info was perfectly correct - the bolt was well and truly seized into the engine mount. I drilled it out using a 5mm pilot and 8mm drill, problem was I got it dead nuts on and went right down the middle of the M10 bolt leaving a "sleeve" which usually you can knock out but this time I had to put a 10mm drill throught it with much crunching, graunching and clenched buttcheeks.

Anyway the bolt is out, new spacer made and crash bungs fitted
