My lad has now turned 17 and has said goodbye to the scooter but at 6'4" tall, has tended to look like a frog on a box of matches when he has been on a 125. After extensive research we plumped for the Hyosung GT125R which was bigger than both the Aprilia and the Cagiva. There are taller bikes but the Hyosung seemed to be the best sportsbike configuration.

Here is a pic of it when it arrived:

...and here it is next to my CBF600SA after we had removed the graphics and fitted a dark smoke screen

...wish they had made 125's like that when I was 17! Very Happy Very Happy

Great bikes, looks like one of the newer ones too.

No problems with my GT125, didnt have the R version, didnt really warrant the additional coinage Laughing

Again, good choice, they do take a while to get run in and sorted... but they are great after that Thumbs Up

Edit.. just seen the tyres.. get rid of them Laughing

Yup, heard about the tyres, they are staying until it is run in and will get swapped then. I have explained about their 'issues' with roadholding in the wet but are a useful way of keeping him below 50 until it is run in.

He must be over the moon with that.

My first bike was a £340 KH125. I looked like a 1980s Japanese commuter. This was only 5 years ago. lol

I wouldnt have said it needs to be "run in" per the manual, I've heard ok things about the harsh running in method on these bikes Thumbs Up

Honest, he'll be lucky to survive the run in without slipping, I had my lovely shinko melted down bottle tyres slip on me in the hot weather Laughing

If he's using it over the Winter then invest in a can of ACF50. The rust proofing on Hyos is not the best.

If it's post 2006 then the rust proofing will be absolutly fine although an ACF 50 application is a good thing if used in winter.

For the love of god though get those Shitko's changed!! Take it from somebody who needed a new pair of pants after taking my ex Hyo out in the rain for the first time. I can't stress this enough and I really wouldn't want to see those lovely fairing mashed up. You'd get more grip on a teflon coated banana skin Evil or Very Mad

Looks stunning though, hopefully i'll be getting a 650R soon Thumbs Up

No, it is behind the front screen, you can see it much clearer without the reflection off it in this pic.

Thanks guys, yes he will be doing his full test. He is currently doing lessons for his car driving test so that needs to be out of the way first. Then straight on to the bike test. The aim is that he will be legal on both by Easter. Very Happy

Bikes that had all the bad points of a 600 AND a 125?

Lucky kid to have a dad who wants to spend time with his son and vice versa.
My dad tought me to ride and then gave me his old commuter bike, was a great feeling going out with him even if he did make me ride slower when I was with him than I ever did solo Razz
