I`m so angry and fustrated with the DVLA that I could squash a grape Evil or Very Mad

I know rules are there to prevent scotes from doing wrong but the rules need to be flexible sometimes surely??

I`ve just finished doing up a bike but it`s not registered in my name.
That`s not a problem as he`s a friend.
He said once it was fixed, if I got it all legal I could use it Smile .

So I get it MOT`d and insured, the insurance companies wer`nt very helpful but I got there in the end.
Now it`s time to tax it
I have insurance, the owners permission to be in possession of the bike (letter) , his previous address, his current address, my address, my driving license, the s.o.r.n confirmation, and a whole host of other information that could validate who I am and where to find me.
But no , because I`m not the registered keeper they wont take my £15 to tax it.

To top it all they asked me why I was in possession of a bike I did`nt own, inferring that maybe I was up to some form of skulduggery Twisted Evil Twisted Evil .

Even when people try to do the right thing and abide by the law big brother sticks a spike in to make you jump through even more hoops.
I f*cking hate DVLA and all the little clerks that work there Middle Finger

rant over now Smile I`ll get me coat!

This, I have never had trouble taxing anything at the post office, and they are manned by real people as well.

They really are a bunch of pig headed suspicious mongtards. They expect you to lie to them anyway, so there's no sense in punishing yourself by telling the truth.

Then they should know better, the DVLA having been drumming the message that the registered keeper is not, necessarily, the owner, for years.

But therein lies the rub.

The post office won't give you a tax disc unless the name on the insurance document matches the one on the V5.

The insurance companies often won't insure you, if you aren't the registered keeper, even though there is no legal necessity for this.

The V5 itself refers to the keeper as the 'seller', but being the keeper doesn't automatically give you the right to sell.

I wonder what would happen if you tried to tax it online; I've successfully used that method to tax vehicles that are registered in one name and insured in another, using a credit card with an unconnected name to pay for it.

as long as your mate agree's that is Cool

The garage that sold me my bike failed to supply a green-slip.

So, for the best part of a month now, I've been grounded without any Tax. I've jumped through all the loop-holes they asked me to do, and they still won't allow me to tax it.

if I had stolen the bike, do they really think I'd bother taxing the bloody thing?

can you get your mate to tax it online, as it will show as being insured and mot'd on the relevant systems - shouldn't matter that its not him who has done that? and just get him to forward the disc on when it turns up.

The only thing that needs to match is the registration number. If it's registered and insured (check www.askmid.co.uk to see if it shows as insured), do it online. Or go to the post office, they'll be fine with it, if not, demand to see the manager.

It's honestly not rocket science!

Will they?

I don't know how many vehicles I've taxed at POs, but it must run into thousands; if you were a motor trader (as I am) they used to let it go if you provided them with a letterhead, stating that your policy covered the vehicle, for the purposes of taxing, but not anymore.

The PO system isn't linked to MID or the MOT database, which is why you still have to provide them with the documents and if the names don't match, they will turn you away.

There's no requirement for the registered keeper to have the insurance in his name. The only requirement for buying tax is that the vehicle is insured.

If they were linked to MID it'd make no difference - all MID shows is the vehicle is insured by someone. This is the same as turning up with an insurance certificate with the correct registration number on it.

Well after trying again at a post office and failing, I went directly to the Ipswich office of the DVLA.
I put all the letters and paperwork out and explained the problem to them (the nice lady).
After much hmmmming and frowning she said "let`s see If I can help you" and she did Smile

The result was some form filling and parting with some cash = Pepperami has his tax disc Thumbs Up .

Pepperami is now legal on the Sachs and has been for a spin Very Happy
