So, my continual money pit (ok, in Vietnam an hours labour is a quid, so meh) has some irritating new foible.
When flat out, the bike lurches along. Like the power is fading on and off... or like the chain is slipping or catching. Chain seems fine. Carb seems set up sweet, airbox is clean.
It did get the valve clearances done recently (or at least they got tightened up in situ with a spanner under the inspection covers) and maybe he made them too tight.
Just curious what the most likely cause is of this annoying jerky tugging (like a less extreme version of hitting the limiter).
(bike is a 125-150cc single aircooled 4t) ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

Cdi or points ignition?
Or fuel starvation. Raise the needle maybe if you can or up a jet size
Clearances I would expect to affect low revs more if too tight, and high revs if too loose ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Carb hasn't been changed for a while, and it was running sweet (just hot) until I got the clearances sorted.
I could up the fuel mix and see if that sorts it.
It could be the chain is on its last legs, looks loose again already. I'll replace it before I leave for the 1000 mile voyage.
How do I check if it is CDI or points ignition? It has a coil to HT to spark, but I figure that's all bikes.
Could be the inline fuel filter perhaps... Will have another check, but its integrated in the tap and a bugger to seal up afterwards (even with PTFE). I'll swap it before I go at any rate, but this is the final few weeks to iron out problems (main one being the suicidal suspension). ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

If it ran with loose tappets it may have coked itsself up. Fuel cleaner, new plug and rag the Shit out of it and you should notice a difference within a few miles. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Fuel cleaner may be an issue in Vietnam. Fuck, 95 RON is considered premium.
Any 'ghetto' fuel cleaners?
I'm starting to think it's probably the chains death wail. Getting too cocky with my wheel floats over hills perhaps (feel my 9 ponies of wrath haha... my new job has an underground car park with a 45 degree ramp to come in and out... ) ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
