Hey just thought that I would mention that now I finally have a tank bag. (An old leather one I got off this funny old biker, nice chap, tallked alot about his days riding round the continent)

But decided to use the Google Navigation app on my Samsung android the other day and just popped it in the map cover.

Worked really well for going around london. It is a bummer on battery life though.

Yes, it does work ok, I've used it in the car when I haven't had the sat nav with me.

If you are going to use it regularly you need to fit a lighter socket on the bike & get a car charger lead for your phone.

If you're using Google Maps it's probably fine around London etc, but once you get beyond a decent 3G signal you end up with no maps - so it's good as useless.

I have used it on my Desire on 6-7 hour trip with music on full volume and sat nav through headphones. It is the screen that kills the battery and there is no need to have it on so long as you have sound.

Last update has an offline mod. It simply downloads the map area you chose.
Go to setting/labs to enable offline navigation.

Add a power socket, and buy some proper software like Sygic or copolot, then you are sorted. Very Happy

Last time I looked all maps are on your phone and the only issue is GPS signal, but thats a phone issue....

GPS is a killer to battries and if being used needs to be kept connected to keep battery charged up.

Yeah it drains my battery in 3.5 hours.
I bought 2 spare batteries and a desk charger for 7 quid. (off ebay)
4 months on and they are still strong.
Brand is YIBOYUAN Laughing if you are interested.

Just fit a power socket to your bike and the job's done. It's cheap and handy.
