I bought one years ago, never got round to actually fitting it, it will need an update to the software.

Do they work?
I've been off the roads (no car or bike) for 25 years so I've missed the rise of the speed camera.
Speed cameras are one of the things I'm dreading when I get my Bandit on the road soon.

How big is the unit that tells you about the camera ?
is it just set areas that will come up, or will it show up the plod in there vans ?

Basically, years ago I wrote a Google Earth/Autoroute interface for the Inforad.

Basically the inforad, records your gps location and speed and using my program you can view your journies in Google Earth or Autoroute.

It's a bright LED on the end of a bendy bracket. It's green when all ok and turns red when it detects something. It detects all Gatso and mobile sites - apparantly.

just to clarify, it doesnt 'detect' anything. it has certain locations programmed into the gps system.

green if nothings around, red if you're in the zone and red flashing if you're in the zone and over the limit.

so it should help identify any fixed cameras and any popular mobile sites that have been programmed in.

the best thing about it is once you've done the firmware update you get journey tracking you can download to your computer and export it onto google maps etc..

used to use it on my 1st bike but never bothered to put it on my next bikes as the gps decided it would either take ages to connect or never connect at all.

So just how does it stop the nasty fines ???? Fire missiles at the boxes ??? kill the postman???

So instead of keeping your eye's on the road and picking up great big yellow boxes and the odd van parked at the side of the road.... Never mind the odd unmarked or marked car.....

You now have you eye's glued to a LED, while you travel faster than you should be....... Praying that the system has got a good gps lock......

Lets just hope other road users understand.........


Now if they could make a system that told you when the boxes were actually working and not just sat there acting as overstuffed bird boxes.....
That would be worth thinking about.

hardly.. me thinks you're overstating your point somewhat.

1. when i had mine on i NEVER looked down at the led, i could always see it in the corner of my eye (was running up the side of the screen against the side out of the way) or at least be able to tell if it was green/red/flashing

2. it is of course just an aid. proved helpful in areas i didnt know so when im following satnav or looking for road signs i didnt accidentally stray above the speed limit. you'd be an idiot to rely on it completely to prevent you from being caught.

remember its a gps device only so random mobile sites and that would not be in the database. you still ride normally, safely and keep your eye out as you normally would.. it just 'helps'

also, as said, the speed camera part is a minor part of its functionality imo (like your satnav having speed camera positions.. well.. exactly like that tbh) as the route tracker is just awesome. was the main thing i used really.


but this all said, i didnt bother putting it back on my other 600 or the blade and i havent missed it. its a nice thing but not really necessary as long as you keep an eye out, dont be silly in areas your know cameras to be and if out of areas you know dont be silly there either.. job done.

Mine arrived today Shocked

Installed the software
Updated the database
temp hooked it up to the GPZ battery ...light was solid green by the time I'd rolled a fag
Light seems like it will be bright enough (based on the green LED only ...not had it show red yet )

Tried to find somewhere on the bike that will enable me to remove the doo dah to keep it updated/ see where I've been and I'm out of ideas for tonight

Unit is not that big ..its just the GPZ has /very/ few stowage options seems theres not enough clearance to stash a pack of fags without them getting crushed

There may be enough room at the side under one of the side panels...but I want to be able to remove the unit by just taking the seat off rather than having to strip the bike down each time

If only the "docking station" part was a cm or so shorter it would have tucked in the rear tail just dandy Sad

I /may/ cut an inforad shaped chunk out from under the hard seat base or try to heat gun an inforad shaped pocket into the crud guard ..I'm sure the wheel doesn't come thtat close to hitting it
Not sure if that's a really daft or ingenious idea though

First impression is a good one though and seems to be a neat piece of kit for the money
Updating the database was free and pretty painless
