I had my bike restricted.
As long as you inform the insurance company of the "modification" and you ride within the confines of your License, then you shouldn't have any problems.
If you are unfortunate to make a claim, the insurance assessor will seek confirmation that a kit had been fitted.
Ride safe. |

It's bullshit. Simple.
The law states nowhere that you need a certificate. It only states that you need to be 33bhp (even then it doesn't state where! Crank or RW) If your insurance ask to see proof then you tell them to dyno it at their expense when it's convenient for you. ____________________ Willson - "If you go out on that CBR600 in the winter, you're going to do more miles on your side than on your wheels."

There's nothing in the statute about the standard of proof required. Nothing. Not one word. Heck, it doesn't even say where the 25kW/33bhp needs to be measured. Crank? Drive shaft? Rear wheel?
If your insurer has a requirement, that's between you and them. According to this MCN article, they believe that onus is on them to show that the bike is over powered.
If Plod has an issue, it's definitely up to them to prove it. The moment you're accused of a criminal offence (with a few specific exceptions, of which this is not one) the burden of proof is entirely on the prosecution.
So don't sweat it, don't admit to anything, don't concede anything if challenged.
If you go with (e.g.) Swinton, they don't even have a category for "A <= 25kW" aka "A2" aka "restricted" licenses, they just have "provisional" or "full", so you can just put "full" and don't even tell them about the restriction. If you haven't told them, they won't ask for proof.
If the worst does happen and you make claim and they start asking to see your license, then you haven't done anything deceptive. "A <= 25kW" is a "full" license, and you've given them all the information that they allowed you to provide. An invisible modification that lowers power only lowers their 3rd party risk and doesn't effect any theft risk: it's not a material fact.
It's a stupid law, badly understood by many "professionals" who should know better, but if push comes to shove if your bike makes <33bhp (probably at the crank) then you're in full compliance with the law. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Which insurers?
As noted, Swinton have a "don't ask, can't tell" situation when you take out the policy. They might choose to ask later, but at that point you can cheerfully tell them to dyno it at their expense, sod off, or see you in court. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
