Hi guys I've got an XJ600N. Theres a bit of a problem with the gearbox... I can't get first gear unless I roll the bike a couple of inches backwards or forwards while engaging the gear.
Is this selector forks (which I can probably sort out myself, or is it something more expensive?
Failing that can anyone tell me what other engines will fit. It's on an R plate the Frame number is 4BR248.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Dozer

as abiove, get the footpeg and linkage off the bike and clean - regrease all the joints, set the chain tension and try again. really get in there and clean up everything with some decent solvet ior degreaser - often this causes the issue - or it could be the selecter drum, which is more than anything, in a bit of an ar*e to get to!

If the above (all good advise BTW) doesn't help, the other alternative is that the clutch may be dragging, although if this is the case, 1st will usually go in with a large clunk when it does go.

How old is your oil? sometimes very old oil can cause issues with 1st gear selection.
