Again on the tractor I'm trying to tart up for my old man!

The solenoid is like so

Red wire on the left and two grey wires run to starter, red wire on right runs to battery.

The red wire on the left needs shorting onto the one on the right for it to turn over.

Doesn't work when the start lever is pulled to turn it on like it is in the picture above.


Edit: Now I've just read all that through, it's going to be the start lever that's the problem, and shorting it just bypasses the start lever.

Whilst probably not directly causing the problem that you're experiencing, the standard of crimping on the grey wires is poor. It would also be a good idea to remove the solenoid and clean away any corrosion that may be causing a bad earth return.

Rather than shorting the terminals you could do it a bit easier by just making up a short wire to run from the spade nearest the camera and dab it on the battery wire to turn it over

Saves the sparks and melted screwdrivers
