on the carbed model sv650 are they bucket over shim or /a locknut thanks adam.

oh thats gay then ,just read in anothother post in general chat and some guy just bought and sv and said it was locknut and i thought to my self im sure its bucket over shim.

Yeah that was probably me, got it wrong. For some reason I thought the old ones had locknut adjusters, got rid of that bike years ago, pretty sure they are shimmed

oooof got me giddy then,theres no signs of them needing doing but trying to do as much as i can to gain experience with the bike but il do it when i do the front end conversion.

If it's any consolation I have checked valve clearances on six or seven bikes, from my friends' Yam SR125 to my old Blackbird, and only ever found two out of spec. One was on the Cb500, and needed a different exhaust shim. The other was on the SR125 which had an exhaust valve so loose you could fit a baby's arm in the gap.

This was most likely to him running it with 500ml of oil that looked like coffee, and never doing any maintenance...

Unless they need work, the checks themselves are fairly straightforward. Just make sure the engines cool and you have a decent set of feeler gauges.

yeah ^^ thats a real good point that often gets missed....deffo wait for the engine to be stone cold before hand.
