The old "first big bike" thread...

So having completed my Mod2 last week, I have been pursuing my first bike.

I have seen a nice Suzuki GSX-600F 2002 with about 30k miles on it. Seems to be a great fit for what I'm looking for - inexpensive, well maintained, faired and looks tidy.

Any advice on what to look out for?

I'd check for regular service evidence. I do mine within 5-7 000 miles. If you know someone who knows bikes - they can come along and point out what needs doing (there's always something) so you can knock it off the asked price. Sit on it for a few minutes, see if position suits you. Minor discomfort after 5 minutes will be a major issue after a few few-hour-long rides.

So... had a good look at the GSX600F - nice bike, reasonably priced. However, I've been very tempted by and decided to buy a Triumph TT600 - a bit more sporty, not too much more and amazing condition/service history. Can't wait

Yep - bike was from a Triumph dealer so taxed, MOT'd, serviced and just insured it.

Well it's been one day since she arrived and I can confirm that the TT is plenty fast enough.

The only thing I'm wondering is why I didn't do this 20 years ago lol!

I've had both the TT and the GSXf, and i can say that the TT is a hell of a better bike than the GSXF.

The TT is a fantastic bike to ride, i was running Metzler racetecs, with a 190 on the rear and it felt fantastic to tip into corners.

The GSXf was slow, boring, didn't sound as good as the TT did and it handled badly too, it felt like a bus.

You've made a good choice there IMO.

I recommend buying the cable to plug into a laptop and TuneECU (free to download) in case you have the problems i did. makes it VERY easy to figure out what's wrong with the bike if anything does go wrong.

I loved my TT, seriously considering getting another one rather than my CBR.

That was mine... what a beast it was.

You should think about getting a double bubble screen. definitely keeps most of the wind off you, makes riding it a bit more comfortable.

My first post on here!!

Passed my MOD 2 on Friday and got my first bike today. It just needs to have an MOT then I can actually ride it!!

Wanted a sports bike for my first big bike but didn't want the usual GSXR, CBR or ZX-6R etc so went for this Daytona 650!
