Do you push the chain down and measure the lowest point, and then push it up and measure the highest point to get the correct amount of slack?

I've read/seen videos where people do this, and there some people just measure the center of the chain to the highest part when pushed up.

I have done the latter but just want to make sure before I go out for a ride.

Cheers

neither really...

it should be the distance from as high as you can push it to the bottom of how far you can push it.... for example if its supposed to have 40 mm, it should be 20 mm up and 20mm down
