I love that feeling you that just overwhelms you when you discover an old hidden gem like this, sounds fresh still, 22 years on. Mr. Green
Blueprint - 1998
Just found that through YouTube, after listening to an old favourite, Mr Lif - Phantom

So come on, I know who's clued up around here, please non of this singstar, auto-weezy faggotry.
Drop bombs, real hip hop, preferably from the golden era itself!

Cheers,
Mac.

Ahhh yeah, funnily enough I stumbled over Jay-Z's "Song Cry" just the other week after completely forgetting about it and remembered what a good album Blueprint was, and I've never even been a fan of Jay-z.

I could keep this thread going for days, however lets kick it off with some Mos Def:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFyTzjJDeCk

and whilst we're on the subject of Mos Def, there's this all time favourite:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYrmop7g2cU

Ahhh man such good memories, it sickens me to think of the garbage that's touted as hip hop these days.

Have you heard Print's album from this year, Adventures In Counter Culture?

Well worth a listen, imo:

Radio Inactive
Go Hard or Go Home (Printnificence)

Rhymesayers rule the roost this year.

Grieves - Bloody Poetry

From Together/Apart, album of the year round here.

Hail Mary Mallon - Meter Feeder

Aesop Rock, DJ Wiz and Rob Sonic make an album better (imo) than anything they've done before.

Also worth a listen to the Atmosphere album, and Evidence has his first album for RHE out shortly.

And I've got tickets to see them all and Brother Ali in November. Cool

Meanwhile, also from Minnesota, Sims of the amazing Doomtree had an early contender with his 2nd solo LP, Bad Time Zoo...

Sims - Burn It Down

And Onry Ozzborn of Grayskul & Oldominion rocked us early in the year, too, with his Hold on For Dear Life long player...

Onry Ozzborn - That Good

And I've not even mentioned Wugazi.

Yeah, 2011's been a pretty good year for it, tbh.

Billy Woods & Priviledge, aka the Super Chron Flight Brothers...

A Million Little Pieces

Guy Fawkes (feat Trife Da God)

from Emergency Powers, an amazing, sprawling, story telling slab of concept album. Not just one of the best hip hop records of the last decade, but one of my favourite records ever.

And I'm still not entirely sure that Cape Verde, last year's follow up, isn't the better disc.

FFS, not already. Laughing
John get out of here with you're ludicrously proper trolling! Cool

Sorry AnPhonEh*, that ain't hi Hip Hop mate Wink
Rap it may be, but poor IMO, Wankster's like that get boring real quick, Why do you wanna subject yourself to listening to someone feed their ego
Before they forget about what they just desire as an image and go leeching onto their next cash concept?
Shit like this has very near killed Hip Hop, arrogance, imitation, bastardisation, greed, laziness, call it what you will, just not Hip Hop.

This Blueprint I'm really feeling...
Nice to see a few classics already, nice also to see a bit of newer stuff with the right sort of vibe, with flow, with something decent to say. Thumbs Up

*I'm not attacking you, just putting it as I see it.. and I can find music to be just as much baffling and an annoyance as I can pleasurable.
Simply because I believe it should have at very least a soul; a vibe, a meaning or a message, a story, a truth or some humour behind it..
Real music has allot of power and influence on a communal, and a self basis, and people don't get exposure to this because it tends to get diluted behind, frankly, allot of shite. Penny Coin Penny Coin

I'm not normally a big fan of Uk hip-hop, but i've been listening to Caveman a lot this week, coming straight out of Wycombe:

Caveman - Positive Reaction
