Bandit vs Hornet Vs Sv650 Vs Street Triple

i've been reading through various stuff on the web regarding which bikes are best after passing DAS and the above four are often mentioned. My only experience is riding an ER500 as that's what im learning on which to be honest I think I would soon get bored with.

So which of the above bikes is considered best, I am just over 6ft tall & approx 14.5 stone.

Personally I like the look of the Triumph the most but then this is also the most expensive and I have also read that it is not worth spending too much on your 1st bike as it is likely to get dropped.

As I will probably be buying from eBay I may not get the opportunity to ride the bikes before hand...

Must admit I like the look of the Triumph the best but then it is much more expensive and this will be my first ever bike, looking on ebay I can pick up a sv650 for half the price, I know the Triple is good but is it really twice as good?

The triumph is the only one that intrigues me out of that list, as I do have experience of the other three but not the trumpet.

Out of the other three I would go for the hornet as I have a soft spot for them. Its the quickest out of the three and although its not all the way up to hondas legendary build quality its a step ahead of the bandit and sv. SV is a good short term bike but it gets very boring very quickly, Ive never been a big bandit fan and the ones Ive seen tend to rust, the ones Ive rode tend to be a bit 'slack' but probably the most comfortable out of those three.

Still, the triumph is the most exotic (I dont know if thats a good thing lol) out of those options.

Would have to try them mate, only way you'll know - even if its just from sitting on them!

So I bought my first bike yesterday. i went for a 04 Hornet. Only one owner from new and low mileage (under 7k) and it cost me £3k. That was from a Honda dealer. I kinda felt that was ok for my first bike. Getting it in a few days, just waiting on the crash bobbins to come in (don't intend dropping it but hey ho want to be safe or at least want my engine to be safe)

I did like the CBF600 but after sitting my test on a GS500 I wasn't too keen staying with Suzuki.

You could add the new diversion and the ER6 to that list as well as the fazer.

My wife has a fazer and an ER6 and used to own a bandit. I have a Street triple.

The Bandit she had was the first of the liquid cooled, a 2007 I think. Poor build qualiy as far as finish goes and she found it top heavy. I thought it was OK but keep the FS365 or ACF50 handy.

The fazer we have is a 2000 carbed model and I love riding it. I rant it something rotten and give it shit loads of abuse and it still comes back for more!

The ER6 is a twin and rather down on power compared to the others but the wife likes it cause its narrow and light, easy for her to manouever.

The Street triple is way out ahead of any of the above. The handling is razor sharp and the engine is something else. I came down in size from a busa to the striple and don't regret it at all as its so much fun to ride. However as you already know you don't get cheap ones.

I just popped in my local Honda dealers, got talking to a guy who reckons I would soon get bored with a Hornet and would be better off with a CBR600F. Now I am getting even more confused

My advice would entirely depend if this is your first big bike or not...i.e. the one you are going to be falling off in the near future? I don't mean to be harsh, but you need to think about these things. Only a small percentage of new bikers do not have accidents.

If this is your first big bike, then buy cheap. Once you have learnt the precious road craft and made all the errors new bikers make, then is the time to be looking for something a lot more suited to your needs aesthetically and for speed.

I learnt my road craft on a stocky sturdy 400cc bike, one which was forgiving and held its price range four years later when I was looking for my next set of wheels.

i bought an sv650s 2007 model as my first decent bike, fantastic at first, going straight from a 125 on that seemed amazing, but it seems to lack something now, great for getting me around yes, picks up in all gears no problems, just lacks a bit of fun.

Ignore everyone here - an 'off' is not inevitable on your first bike.

I had 3 faired bikes in 3 years (90,000) miles and I only dropped one (or layed down) at a fuel pump that had diesel on the floor.

But for a fun weekend bike, I would get the CBR600F rather than the Hornet.
