Mucky chain and slippery back wheel..

Went to Bassetts Pole last night with a mate...on the way back I nearly came off as my back wheel suddenly got very slippery...and it was like that for the rest of the 20 minute ride home...although it did ease.

Went to clean my bike today...there is black oily grease sh*t splattered all over my back wheel...including tyre...the chain itself looks 'muckier' than usual...instead of light oil and lube it looks as if there is black THICK oil/paint cr*p all over it...and the chain guard.

Could this be something I rode through that has splattered all over...or is it a symptom of a more serious underlying problem ?

I have de-greased the tyre and checked for leaks..none...but I am worried as I am going out on the bike again later...and want to know if this chain is safe.

Sounds like you rode through a load of oil then as long as you cleaned it all off the back tyre, then you should be fine, and extra oil wont do you're chain any harm But I would wipe the excess off that incase it flings everywhere.

I wanted to know if the chain could mess up or anything...but I guess not....

I did clean the excess off..and although it looks a bit different, I guess it's okay.

Well if you are scared Clean the chain up with parrafin or white spirit then re-lube it, piece of mind and all that

Check your gearbox/engine oil level is ok, just in case the gearshaft seal behind the front sprocket has failed.
