As a comparison...
I come off my CBR 5-6 weeks ago.. not sure how fast I was going.. I accepted the fact that I was going to come off so just waxxed the brakes to make the crash as slow as possible...
I was wearing.. expensive gloves, expensive boots, (Helmet.. Obv.!!) Richa textile trousers and a leather jacket I bought in the Trafford Centre from a high street shop about 5 years ago and cost approx £120.
Now then... this jacket apparently is *real* leather and has some little badges to make it cool.. never intended to use it for riding.. didnt even have a CBT when I bought it!
Guess what happened? - Went down lowside, cant remember much else, just that I saw the sky and tarmac a few times.. Textiles ripped around the knee and shin area.. couple of stiches come out of my left boot, gloves got some dirt on and the jacket? - Nothing... not even a scuff...
On this basis, I always knew leathers were better in crash protection than textiles but this has amazed me...
I think what I'm trying to say is, if you like the leathers and can afford them, buy them! As long as your not going on a track with a cheap jacket and pair of textiles I would think they will protect you as much as the £600 pair from the Suzuki dealers..
Ride safe, I was riding safe but a lapse of judgement, in-experience and target fixation all arose at the same time, very quickly.. I came off with a slightly bruised shoulder, two sprained fingers and a dent in pride... even got lucky with the bike only needing a bit of TLC and a few spares.
Try not to worry about crashing too much, just try to avoid the situations that put you in danger. I worried about wearing this jacket instead of my expensive armoured, kevlar, super duper textile one but its done its job and now it's the only one I wear unless it's raining!
Try them on, if they fit good and suit you... purchase
Hope my mistakes help you in some way ____________________ CBT - 01/05/2011 | Theory - 07/05/2011 | Mod 1 - 01/07/2011 | Mod 2 - 08/07/2011
