Right I am new to biking, I am 22 and have just recently passed my CBT in order to reduce our outgoings as I have recently purchased a CBR125 and sold one of our cars.

But I would like some help/advice, what should I be doing weekly/monthly in terms of cleaning and checking, lubing etc? Briefly was told in our CBT but if im honest I wasnt really concentrating as I could think about was going out on the bike.

I have purchased some muc off cleaner and water dispersing stuff, what else should I be doing as I literally have no idea. I am not even sure how or what I should be cleaning.

Thanks

I would also like to know this Thumbs Up

I seem to remember some acronyms on CBT that said what you should check before every ride and once a week. I was surprised they didn't go over any of that stuff again on DAS.

Check the tyre pressures are OK. CBR125 is 29 psi front and 33 rear.

Make sure your chain is lubricated. Not sopping wet that the oil flings off everywhere, but not bone dry either. Check the slack on the chain is properly set. If it's too slack it'll either hit the swing arm when you decelerate or worse jump the sprocket. On a CBR125 it's 20-30mm. I normally set mine at around 25. If you do it too tight it can wear the output shaft bearing.

Oil. Check either the dipstick or sight glass that the oil level is OK. Half way between full and low is ideal. Run the engine for a short while, then check the level with the bike upright, NOT on the sidestand. If you're running a two stroke, check the two stroke oil tank.

Check your brake fluid level. Make sure it's not too low at the front and the back. The front brake is the most important one. Check the pads are not worn below the wear limit if your fluid is a little on the low side. There are wear markers (lines or notches) on the pads.

Check the coolant isn't too low.

Does everyone do all these things before going out on the bike? Do they bollocks. But it's an idea to do these things periodically. If you're going out touring a fair distance you might check em all before you set off.

i like to clean all my filters once a month .check every single nut and bolt every week for looseness . i change oil every 1200 miles on the dot .for mine its 10/40 oil and would probably suit your cbr check your manual or online to make sure .check your chain for tight links and slackness .
general stuff really . check your fluid levels in your brakes n such .test everything before u ride it each time.
valve clearences . buy yourself a manual for your bike if you do not have one

. listen to the sounds your bikes making very carefully any rattles or new sounds should be investigated .i remember hearing something a bit odd in the way of a sqeuky sound and my front brake being jerkey i pulled over to chek and found my front caliper had shed a bolt and was hanging off.
just keep an overall attentative eye on it all and remember bikes live through good handling from there owners.

first time i had a motorbike i thought i could treat it like my bmx
and i would be able to just lean it up in the shed and itd be fine until i rode it again haha

im not a sucker for fancy polishing and cleaning products i use furniture polish mostly .although u may want to purchase some weather protection stuff now that the bad weathers coming in .personally i just clean after every ride . hope this helps a bit
.
enjoy your bike man
