 |
|
It probably sounds like a daft question, but tomorrow I will be phoning up insurance companies to insure my first bike and tbh I have no idea how to go about it. Do you haggle with them as you would in a shop? Should I phone up the companies that say "We don't insure bikes with mods" or would it be a waste of time? My bike has the usual mods, can, tail tidy, mini indicators, fender extender and double bubble screen. It is also restricted to 33bhp, could this bring the premium down a bit?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ____________________ "Pain is weakness leaving the body, and blood makes the grass grow faster...but I'll wear my gear anyway" |

Yes you can. Tell them you have had lower quotes, and throw in some differences to the quote that you might want...lower excess, breakdown cover etc...but more than anything else shop around and keep away from placws like Money Superripoffeveryoneundertheageof40market.com etc. Start with the companies in the back of bike magazines etc and go from there.
Good luck and don't accept anything until you have reached the strage where everyone is quoting higher no matter what you change.... ____________________ Good judgement comes from experience.....experience comes from bad judgement! |

I just renewed mine. It was a good conversation.
''Your renewal will be £61 a month''
''That's more than i'm paying now, with an extra NCB year''
''Yes, but we didn't make any adjustments from when you swapped bikes''
''Yes you did''
''oh, ok''
''I'm paying £40 a month now, and I'm not paying a penny over £30 a month''
''The best we can do is £35 a month''
''I'll look elsewhere then''
''Hold, I'll have a word''
pause... shit music...
''We can go as low as possible, and get you insured for £30.39 a month''
''Sorry, still over £30 a month... I'll look elsewhere''
Phone down, carry on whatever I was doing.
Phone rings
''Hi, we want your custom, and can insure you for £29.94 a month''
Basically, name your price as long as it's within reason, and they will crack. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. I hate, hate, hate talking to the lying, deceitful, cloth eared, untrained, gouging incompetent mongs at insurance companies, to the extent that I'd rather just go with the lowest price comparison result than waste one second of my life trying to get a cheaper phone price on an inevitably mis-sold policy that actually turns out to cover a VW Camper Van garaged in an abandoned Latvian missile silo. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Didn't budge in my case either... I found a cheaper quote at renewal than what the company I was with had offered, much cheaper.
Me: "Hi, I received a renewal notice and I'd like to stay with you as my insurers, but I've found a quote that's £90 for the year as opposed to the£150 you've quoted, can you match it?"
Them: "Sorry sir, that's the best we can do..."
Me: "Okay, thankyou for your time, I'll go with the other quote then in that case."
Them: "Fair enough, goodbye."
*click*
Doesn't hurt to try though. The funny thing is for 125's it's usually the same underwriter across the board (Equity Red Star), so why is there so much variation in quotes from the different brokers who are effectively selling the same thing? |

Got a better price albeit by £5. Lots of 'I just need to check' ..And.... '.Are you sure you don't want Breakdown? What would you do if you had a puncture?'
I have a repair kit.....Pause.
£140 all in for both bkes. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

Spent hours trying to find the cheapest quotes online. The cheapest I could get was £813, so I rang up that company asking for a quote. I gave them all my details etc and they gave me a quote of £633! I asked the girl to run through the details twice because I was convinced there was something she missed out. I asked if she could bring it down anyway, in which she said no lol, worth a try though. Ended up paying almost £200 less than what I was expecting, so very happy ____________________ "Pain is weakness leaving the body, and blood makes the grass grow faster...but I'll wear my gear anyway" |
