I assed my test 3 weeks ago and decided to get rid of my old cagiva planet 125which i have had for 3 years , i ended up buying a 91 ZXR750 j1 in blue, sounds a bit silly to jump straight onto a big bike but i had read that they are a good one to start off with. the day after i got it i decided to do a road trip and covered 970 miles on it going to wales and up through north wales making my way to the peak district. i am glad i did it as it gave me a chance to learn the bike and gain some experience. i scared myself a few times but overall i was quite sensible.

Good for you ! I have still to pass my Mod 2 but have invested in a Triumph Bonneville - can't wait to ride it !

I had thought of getting a 125 and riding it on L plates for a while but once on my Direct Access course realised I'd be bored with it pretty quickly and would then have to sell it once I got the full licence.

So I too will be going straight on to a "big bike" - albeit one that's not exactly sporty !

It wasn't my first choice i had been looking at bandit's and hornets as i orefer the naked bikes to sports, but something drew me to this one and that's how it ended up. it took a bit of getting used to to begin with, especially the riding position, my legs went to sleep so kept having to stop and also my left wrist is a bit sore. but all i want to do at the moment is be out on it. i have just got rid of my car so it is my only transport at the moment. not looking forward to riding it in the winter though.

Cheers.
It's not perfect but as you said for it's age it isn't too bad.
Got to get the carbs balanced as it is running abit rough on idle. changed the clutch seal and changed the brake fluid so far.
it needs new sparks and an oil change which i will do soon.
unfortunately i won't get to ride it much after next weekend. Crying or Very sad
i start my new job which i'm away for 14 weeks on training.

i needed to get some use out of it before the winter, and the weather hasn't been the best this summer.

I've been pased for 2 days and only managed to ride it back from the test centre so far! Hard to get out when I'm single parent and one of them is a 5 year old! Rolling Eyes
