Cleaning Textile gear

How do you guys clean your textile jackets/trousers?

I have a RST jacket and Heine gericke trousers but there is nothing on the labels telling me what i should do. I bought them 2nd hand so i dont have instructions either.

Can they go in the washing machine or do they need to be handwashed?

Also whats the best products to use on them to keep them in good condition/waterproof etc.

Do not use regular detergent.

Wash with Tech Wash, then if they've gone leaky, try Tx. Direct.

That said, my RST jacket has damp elbows again, so maybe there's a better solution.

Having used all the Tex stuff. Goretex Pirtex E-vent etc i notice that whatever i wash them in and whatever kind of re-proofer i use they don't keep the rain out like they did from new.

Indeed, my mind has started wandering towards thoughts of dubbin or wax furniture polish. Might not work, but a heck of a lot cheaper than another try with TX. Direct.

This interests me as I have a pair of RST synchro textile trousers that have just started to leak in the crotch which is no fun.

I was under the impression the waterproofing was from a layer underneath the outer shell, and as such I had no idea what to do, I'll have a look at the tech wash stuff see if that can help.

TechWash to wash them, then NikWax spray to rejuvenate the waterproof properties.

My gear is 2nd hand, still like brand new but could do with a clean.

I've used TechWash etc on my mountain gear and it doesn't last very long.

So I bought a can of waterproofing spray from Aldi - don't know what it is, but water runs off anything it touches.
