Any owners out there of ZX6Rs 05/06.
I am very interested in getting one early next year, as i am missing my GSXR.
I don't fancy another GSXR as i want to have something a bit different to my friends. The R6, i feel would be too hardcore and the CBR doesn't really excite me when i look at it.
So basically, any owners able to give feedback on what they are like to live with, problems, finish etc.
Would be great to get an idea of what i could be buying into.
Here is a picture for your time

They're quite fun.

Mine's got a full yoshimura RS5 exhaust system, power commander 3, K&N air filter, and a power commander LCD screen fitted. Makes one hell of a difference from standard.
I think it got 112bhp on the dyno, but it's just a yoshi+K&N basic map from the dynojet website.
Ditch the catalytic converter with a full exhaust system and get a PC3 at the very least.
Handles much better than my old R6 and GSXR, but feels quite big compared to the likes of a Ducati 848 etc.
My regulator/rectifier went, but TBH i think it was like it when I bought it, replaced that, no problems since.
I also had a rattly cam chain tensioner, but after replacing, it's been fine too.
Filter changes you need to be careful about, but that's another story. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Why's that?
To the OP, the go well, turn well and stop well. |
They need to be bled, or the oil light never goes out. All you have to do is either fill up the filter with oil beforehand, or unscrew the filter (not remove), fire the engine up, then screw it in when oil comes out. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. I've never filled the filter first ?! lol.
Also I own one, seems like a bigger bike compared to most 600's, but people have commented its "comfy" compared to their bike etc. Think because it is slightly bigger.
Has a slightly different sound to the engine too, i suppose because its not quite 600.
Handles bloody well IMO, I've had to foot scraping a few times without leaning off (and yes blah blah I try to place it "correctly" etc), it also goes like stink. Seems to have that little extra pull in the "mid range" if you will, over a normal 600 as well which is nice.
Had a comment on it saying something along the lines "its a working mans 600" I think basically meaning its the more practical 600 hooner bike?
Likes to lift the front up, and gets nice and wobbly .
Anyho thats my take on it, before that I owned an SV650 so take it as you will. |

Was heart set on getting one, seem perfect, until I had the realisation that the gixxer 750 was 300 quid to insure for me, whereas the ninja was 900! Gixxer I believe is a much better bike anyway, but I ruled higher capacity out from a rule of thumb on insurance until I had a brainwave.

Mate, if the insurance was the same price I would be riding a ninja right now, not that I regret it or hate the circumstance I do fooking love my gixxer but the ninja is no worse a bike, and crucially about a grand and a bit cheaper. They also seem to come with more decent accessories generally, cans and the like. ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.
