Well, I was having a nice little razz along, and was arsing about, and decided in my boredom to have a little front wheel only fun. Problem is, as I was braking I went over a bloody crap pothole - not a deep one, but enough to send a bump through the bike.

I carried on riding normally and noticed that the bike felt like it was snaking from side to side, and it felt a bit more top heavy than it was before. I got home and I've checked the forks, they're not drastically bent; i.e. if they are bent, i can't see it. The front wheel isn't buckled and the bearings seem okay, so I'm just wondering, what happened to the handling? Confused .

PS when i push down on the forks, i hear a clunk noise as they reach the bottom of their travel - this normal?

Might have bent or twisted the fork tubes, are the seals leaking any fork fluid?

Or you gave yourself a scare and were a bit over-cautious for the rest of the ride and blamed it on the steering.. happens a lot... I once had my bike completely checked over by 2 mechanics and test ridden by my mate then took pillion on it.. all because I thought it didn't handle properly... but it was fine.. I'd just bumped my confidence down a bit..

Worth a thought?

Yeah mate, I'm considering that. I noticed that when I take my hands off the bars the bike doesn't go to one side, and the effect did seem to decline as I got closer to home.

I just thought i'd check and put my mind at ease though Smile ?

You'll probably find that the bikes back to "normal" the next time you ride it... Thumbs Up

I know quite a few people who have sworn blind that something was wrong with their bike, but in fact was all down to knocking a bit of confidence! I've done it myself numerous times.. it's the times you think somethings wrong but don't slow down that you have to worry Wink Laughing

Well I certainly slowed down, I had mental visions of my front wheel falling off, and me going over the bars, just like it did on that movie clip that's floating about Laughing .

At worst, I'd say it could have twisted the forks in the yokes. Old indian trick for fixing this is to slacken off the pinch bolts on the yoke then repeatedly bump the front wheel square-on into a wall, squares things up a treat, then do up the pinch bolts again.

I've checked all of them and they're fine......
....I think it was just a case of what craig (yams) was describing - i hopped on the bike yesterday and took it round town, and she felt fine.

Update. Took it to the maniacs (mechanics) and they've told me that my head bearings are fooked. This may or may not be related to any harsh treatment that was administered by myself.
