First proper run

Sunday afternoon, sun shining so was time to take the bike out and just ride. Clocked 70 miles, did rural and urban riding and then once I had my confidence, I nipped onto the motorway and opened it up a little more. Yee ha, that was fun and gave me a chance to try overtaking for the first time as all through my lessons the opportunity never arose.

Am shattered and reflective. Some stuff went well other things not quite so well but still early days and if I wasn't so tired I would be away back out again! Laughing

Now here is hoping it is nice tomorrow evening so I can go back out for a wee while

Well done! Try and get out for short runs as often as possible. Lets you keep high concentration levels. I'd keep it to dry days when it's quiet until you start feeling one with the bike Thumbs Up

Took me a few days to get used to things to be honest, but now it's a great experience every time... love the slow speed stuff in town as much as the higher speed stuff on the open road... all good!

Yep I had fun in a retail park dodging pedestrians and dozy car drivers! Still getting a feel for the clutch on the bike and my Hornet has considerable more power than the GS500 I was riding when learning. A couple of time I over revved it taking away but hey will get there Embarassed

I must admit the first year or so I was riding, there was hardly an outing without some sort of 'incident' to learn from.
This stage does pass!

At least I was out by myself so no one who knows me heard the over revving lol. Was just a tad to keen to get moving but the faster I try to take off the more I screw it up. Need to relax Shocked

I believe I read here it's kinda tough for you as you have a child to look after and can only ride when you get a sitter?

I picked my bike up just before the weekend and have done 3 trips into London, some country roads in the opposite direction (Kent) and ambling along locally.

I've clocked up close to 200 odd miles already Laughing

I would imagine you are itchin to rack up those miles though but I hear the Schools go back soon so it's not all bad. Hope you get the chance for loads more riding soon love Thumbs Up

@Alex: that will be Angel you are thinking about. i am the old one with grown up kids (phew) but work away from home so clocking up the miles presents a different challenge.

@Joe: smooth on the clutch so all good, will just pretend my bike is supposed to sound like that Embarassed

I myself survived the first day of riding to work today Laughing

I was quite happy trying filtering on broad dual carriageways earlier, but didn't quite find the courage to filter today on my way to work, as some of the roads can get rather cramped at rush hour. I've seen some awful drivers around me the last few days, but the road rage is in check, phew... Smile

Filtering - oh dear, haven't attempted that. I am sure the opportunity will arise, hopefully in the very distant future once I have more confidence lol

Aah the first rides....the butterflies, the mistakes and wondering if anyone saw, the smooth handling and grinning like a cheshire cat.....brings back memories. Smile

When I first started filtering I only filtered past a few cars at first as I found I was way too tense. Eventually I built up the courage to filter through stationary/slow moving traffic at more than 2 miles an hour Very Happy

until eventually I was filtering through traffic on the A12 at 25-30mph (its a 50mph 3 lane carriageway). Now I only filter if I feel like it Laughing

Take it all one step at a time and in a few weeks you'll feel like you've been doing it for years.

Pick up my new bike tomorrow, and going straight from a 125cc to a 600cc, I'm literally bricking it.
So worried about that extra weight and power, really hope I don't drop it on my first day. Sad

Probably should've got a big bike taster lesson but ah well, I'm sure I'll manage. Wink
