Looks like it should be ridden by a big daddy.

I'm still waiting for the HDT JP8 diesel bike to hit the civvy market. Its a klr650 basid offroader with a 600 diesel motor that makes similar power to the 650 but gets over 100mpg.

..and you'll be old enough to claim a free Bus Pass before one ever gets sold on the open market. HDT have been 'designing' that bike for roughly 10 years now, it's vapourware, outside of a few test rigs it's never existed.

I always hear about various militaries using diesel bikes so they can use the same fuel for all their vehicles. Is that true and if so, is there a chance of picking them up as surplus or are they usually run into the ground to the point where they can't be sold as more than scrap?

royal enfield used to do a diesel bike that did 200mpg! but it only just pushed out the power of a wet fart! think it managed to do 40mph on a good downhill run!

Its the JP8 we were discussing above.

A couple of dutch companies make diesel bikes, one uses a vw lupo 3cyl motor and the other is a bespoke designed parallel twin.

My Dad's at a meeting down south at the moment, some 3 day conference thing, he works in fleet and he's just this minute texted me saying he's got pictures and some details of a diesel motorcycle that'll do 100mpg he's seen at the show there.

I'll upload pictures and details when he's home tomorrow if I don't forget!

Been sniffing round on that diesel bike site looking on this page and downloaded the yamaha patents they made in 2009 and its obvious at least one of the big manufacturer's are looking into the idea...

OK, here goes.

The bike in question, was an Ovik Special Vehicle. The Track T800 CDi. I believe made by a Dutch company named EVA.

Got a stat sheet infront of me so bear with,

The pictures here are taken from my dads mobile phone camera so may not be too great, we'll see.

The Engine: An 800cc Daimler Benz Turbo Diesel, as used in the diesel Smart Car (3 Cylinder)

I'm going to cut a lot of the stuff out and just mention the basics, otherwise I'd be here all day.

It is a 4 cyl diesel with 1600cc. Taken from a VW Golf. Frame is self build. Made by a guy from netherlands. Have some more pics of it in my flickr set.

The other bike shown in its police-dress is a Track-Diesel 800cdi. Made also in the Netherlands. Grab Infos from the manufacturer himself: https://dieselmotorfiets.nl/

28km / L ..... 1.6093 miles/km ....... 4.5461 L / gal

28/1.6093 = 17.4 miles / L

17.4 * 4.5461 = 79.1 mpg.

It is pretty good - 50bhp 500cc petrol twins get 60-70mpg though and cost considerably less to buy.

If a factory had the nuts to design a diesel bike I'm sure they could make summat beautiful.

I'm waiting for a turbo diesel Pan European or the like.
