 |
|
Hi All,
Just a quick question that you knowledgable people may be able to answer. I'm taking my Mod 2 later this month on my 125. Do I have to wear a hi-viz wotsit, or is that just for DAS?
Thanks ____________________ Honda Goldwing GL 1000 Current love

My approach to Hi-vis clothing in pretty much all circumstances is "If I need it, someone will give me it" ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |

I wondered that when I did mine.
No I didn't have one, and no they didn't give me one either. Just the radio belt. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

DSA have recently issued a bullatin on clothing.
Not sure that Hi-Vis is on the list;
It is the 'stuff' reccomended in CBT, vis 'sensible' atire or propper bike clothing.
Personally, I'd say for the sake of a fiver, just get something!
You're trying to impress the bloke.
Might not be 'essential', and might not make him 'over-look' causing a multiple pile up, or anything, but 'first impressions'..... they DO count!
I reccomend the Sam-Brown Belt, rather than high-vis bib; its more 'obviousely' BIKE... rather than yet another bright blob.... but your call.... once you have licence in your pocket, if you really dont like it stick it in a bin, or hand it to some-one in the waiting room! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
Current Bikes:'Honda VF1000F' ;'CB750F2N' ;'CB125TD ( 6 3 of em!)'; 'Montesa Cota 248'. Learner FAQ's:= 'U want to Ride a Motorbike! Where Do U start?' |

I wore mine on my A2 Mod2 even though it makes me look like a traffic warden as I would have got one from my instructor had he come with me. It helps to look the part even if you dont feel the part I still have mine and carry it in my rucksack all the time just in case I come home in the dark or it starts chucking down. Thinking of getting me a Sam-Brown Belt as Tef suggested as I prefer them. ____________________ Current ride - 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 K4 - 2x 2014 Honda NC750s long term courtesy bikes - 2003 Fazer FZ6 written off as idiot reversed into me - 2009 YBR125 - still have from new |

You do not have to wear hi vis while on test, on any bike. According to a strict reading of the statue, you could even remove your L plates, as the conditions[1] attached to your provisional entitlement don't apply while on test.
I'd recommend trying that if and only if you're out to pick an argument rather than to get a license.
Likewise, you don't have to wear hi vis but for the sake of a pound store purchase it may give the examiner a good first impression of you and it certainly can't hurt, especially if you rock up on your own. Since the test is so subjective, I think that would be money well spent.
[1] L plates for <= 125cc, 11kW or L plates, fluorescent clothing and accompanied by a qualified DAS instructor carrying his certification for any other bike. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
