Ok,I just spent 3 hours plus doing slow manouvres and u-turns and I am in SO much PAIN.
My back, neck, right hand, wrist, forearm (oddly not the bicep) shoulder, kidney area on right (wtf did I do to make a kidney ache???),buttocks and feet all ache like I just took a beating!

I seem to remember riding everywhere, all the time without all this pain 20 years ago. There again I passed my first licence back when they just expected you to be able to ride a bike without turning into a screaming ball of fire travelling at 100mph.

The instructor did say that he wanted to really drill low speed riding into us til it was second nature but next time he sets out cones I may cry like a baby.God knows what I'll feel like in the morning Laughing

Can remember after about half an hour or so my wrists used to hurt a bit. Probably because I was concentrating so much that I didn't realise how hard I was gripping the grips.

You were probably just tense for 3 hours because you were concentrating. Bet it'll be easier next time.

I ached for 2 days after my CBT. All that concentration and gripping with hands and knees!
It sorts itself when you start to relax. You probably don't even notice yourself tensing up.

Two hours was my limit and then I found I was sore and starting to make silly mistakes! And riding the bike is hard work when you are tense Laughing

Relax. Its because you are tense, which will lessen over time.

In my experience school bikes are tired and the controls are heavy and stiff. If you'd done all that stuff on a new or less-abused machine you probably wouldn't be in such pain.

That said, I rarely spend 3 hours a day doing U turns so I could be wrong.

Just relax.

So it'll become natural.

Nevermind. Laughing

Remember it's the bike doing the work, not you. What goes into those levers and twist grips is all the matters, the rest of you could be doing a song and dance, so why not just chillax and sit on the bike?

I know it can be stressful at first knowing that your speed is low and you might stall any second, even more so on a bike cause you might fall over when you do, but so long as you've got plenty of revs going and the clutch near the bite you only need move that lever a tiny bit out to stop yourself falling over, or whip it in if you're about to stall.

Is it just me or does no one actually ride like they were taught to on their CBT? e.g revs up, clutch half out, control the speed with the back brake?
I often use the front brake when traveling slowly, and control my speed using just the clutch.

I had to ride at less than comfortable walking speed, was told he didn't care if I wobbled or how many times I put a foot down.Instructor said that after doing the ultra slow stuff everything else would seem like a doddle which would help my control and confidence.

He also said he wasn't teaching me to ride,he was teaching me to pass my test.Made me think the DSA want to put as many people off riding as possible.

I made a similar post after my CBT, I couldn't use my right arm afterwards for about a week! Laughing

As everyone said at the time, a mixture of relaxation and practice and it went away Thumbs Up
