What a shithole.

I went yesterday, got stranded overnight and have to say.. I hope I never have the misfortune of being there again.

It's like, a small town the industrial revolution just, kinda, skimmed..

Some of it seems American in design (few buildings, few street layouts) but the people I encountered there are also.. dumb. This is not to say they are all spackers, just the ones that approached me.

Don't know how warped ended up with a tranny, I managed to see a handful of nice (but possibly real slags) girls that were do-able. (my standards are high as it is, Laughing before i consider that area's reputation)

I was waiting at 1 set of lights (near the but station, turning into it) when they lights go red, so I stop sharpish and wait when some chap waiting at the crossing shouts "oi, it's ok to wait in the yellow box mate", I said "yeah?" he goes "yeah, everyone does". This would be a yellow box with lines inside, the type the Highway code says not to enter unless the exit is clear..

Red lights, after the streetlights come on nobody seem's to pay attention to these, a saw a good handful of cars wizz straight on through, 1 was a police car without blues on.
There are lot's of 1 way systems with 'no right turn/no U turn' roads for a small town, again, nobody cared about 'em.

I found 1 estate that was almost exactly like "shameless", visually it was almost the same just a quarter of the size. Some people were quite nice, I stopped at 'Duke Street' and asked some woman for help, she dragged a few neighbours out to help when she had no idea. Smile

McDonalds, how the fuck can 3, that's 3 full size restaurants be closed at 5am?? 1 was on the main road into the place!

Clubs, "Baileys".. this place was actually properly empty but still blasting out a bit of Justin Timberlake in the small hours. WHY?

There's probably more but tbh i'm too tired now to wanna think about it. Crying or Very sad

Glad to hear that you made it out OK. Throat unpunched? Did anyone swear an eternal blood feud against you for looking at them a bit funny?

I like that McDonalds opening times are used to assess a town's current level of development. :L

Duke Street is certainly the cheap area of town.

Which McDonalds (there are three)?

I can't really think of any one way systems apart from a small one near the courts and that's only single road.

In Crewe there is a traffic light junction with a yellow square in the middle but everyone does wait on it, and it even has the sensors under the tarmac in the middle so it must be allowed.

As a resident of Grimsby, Born and bred i feel that i should come to it's defence...But i just can't.

It is a shit hole, I live right on the outskirts 5 min walk to rolling fields and nice wooded area to walk, There are some real nice people but i fear these are outnumbered.

Not sure how long you spent here but in the short time you seemed to have hit the nail on the head.

I'm pleased you made it out alive

Today I ventured into Scunthorpe for the first time in a while. I must admit it's a little (tiny, miniscule) bit nicer than Grimsby but both aren't that great.

I'm in Grimsby quite often unfortunately. I'll have to take Warped's word for it, although I'm with Pan in that I can only really think of the one one way system.

And aye, I concur with Hull being just as bad, if not worse, in places.

Nooo, you clearly haven't been to either Grimsby or Hull have you? Grimsby always was the pits, it had a serious heroin problem back in the 1980's and hasn't really recovered... there is very little industry there, and it's not got a lot going for it.

Some parts of North Lincs are fine though, as with all places 20 mins down the road and it's a different vibe, with different people.

Apparently, Hull is getting better. Money has been injected in, the housing situation has been given a cash boost, so much so - that some people from Nth Lincs are moving over, as it's a little better than Scunny in the city stakes.

Hull fair was the reason we went over the water in the olden days. Dunno if it still occurs, but it used to take up at least four streets...ahhh the memories... Karma

I wish the Mods would combine this with Hellkat's "fishy minge" thread.

What housing situation exactly?

The one where they demolished loads of Bransholme because no one would live there?

Or council houses being sold for £5000 a piece to the son of John Prescott?

Or the empty unsaleable houses?

double hijack:

When taking my HGV test last year, I was told that if the yellow box was on a junction with traffic lights then I was to enter the box and wait there, and if the lights turned to red while waiting in the box then I was to finish my turn in to the exit I wanted.

Did this on my test, and passed.

Sounds like it hasn't changed much in the last few years then... Wink
All the charm of a bin lorry, with the added advantage of a Youngs fish dock Sick

We had the misfortune of losing our way when visiting nearby some years ago. The "industrial" look reminded me a little of Dover too

This is correct. You may enter a box junction and wait if you want to turn right and the exit is clear, but are prevented by oncoming traffic etc.

Quote:

Box junctions. These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road (see 'Road markings'). You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signalled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.

Being honest, I didn't take the 1way names because i was so focused trying to find my freind and get out of there..

I was only happy to find the Asda.

I recall the most annoying 1way street being the left side of the train line. this box was here
