Two weeks ago I had to jump my 750 K6 bike and today I had to do it again.

After a run of 20mls and leaving it 2 hrs she started up with no problems.

I'm thinking it might be time to change the battery. What do you think guys and which one do you recommend please?

Thanks

If you have a volt meter.
Check the voltage between the + And the - posts with the engine off.
It should read 12v or more.
Start the engine and give it half revs.
It should read more than 14v but not more than 16v.
14v means it's charging.
more than 16v could mean the charging system is over charging.
If it is giving the correct 1v then most likely it is the battery that is goosed.

You can check on the bike sometimes but best to take it to Halfrauds and let them check.

The best test is using a High Rate Discharge device to put high load on whilst measuring voltage.
A good battery should provide near full voltage before dropping off as charge depletes
But a bursted battery will show full voltage but instantly drop to low or zero as test is done.

Odessey are rated but there are cheaper ones.
It depends on how you want to use the bike.
If you intend to keep it then buy a decent battery.
Expect to pay about £60 for a good AGM.
Normal lead acid batteries are much cheaper. But AGM last and works much better £ for £.

Many thanks for your quick reply.

I've carried out the test you suggested and I think the battery isn't holding the charge. Looks like a new battery!

Apart from what Walloper has mentioned, can anyone recommend me a battery for my Gixer please?

Thank you

12V with no load means the battery is almost flat. Putting any load on it the voltage with fall fairly rapidly since you're at the tail end of the discharge curve. Running any battery to a deeply discharged state is not advisable, since it damages the cells.

Charge the battery fully overnight. Measure the voltage. It should measure around 13.2-13.5 volts with the battery fully charged. If you test the voltage under load then you will get a better picture of the battery's state. If the voltage falls off rapidly and keeps doing so your battery is definitely gone.
