I know that being out on the bike is not always about who gets there first or who`s the fastest.
I also know that you can sometimes be quicker on a smaller bike!, I`ve done it before Thumbs Up

Near me are some small tight twisty roads, perfect for a 125 Smile .
so after a bit of fiddling around with the XTC 125, I decided to take it for a quick spin.
The weather here was/is nice, & because I was on back roads there was absolutly no traffic, what a great way to go for a spin!

Looking at the speedo a couple of times I was suprised how quick I was actually going and thought to myself "I`d never go this fast around here on my ZX".
The Sachs is a big bike for a 125 and the engine is ok? but in no way fast, but those big forks and Sachs shock on the back certainly help in the handling stakes.

Does anybody else find that in the right circumstances they can go quicker/have more fun on thier smaller bikes than if they`re on their big old missiles.

i must admit i do miss the 125 every now and again, just the fun of throwing it all over the place because it was so light. but being 6ft 5", i dont miss the size difference haha.

Depends on the circumstances really. Think it would take some pretty peculair ones where I COULDN'T get more from a bigger bike; but whether even trying would be fun or not? Different matter.

Flipping it around; dirt riding small and light is great; dont think it would be MUCH fun at ALL trying to get my 750 from one end to the other of even the tamests trials section! BUT was rather 'fun' riding teh VF-Though, three hundred kilo's of fully laden tourer, 'feet up' along farm tracks or accross a rain soaked Isle of Man camping field!

Works both ways, really. End of the day... its a bike; you can have fun on it no matter what it is; fun qouta is not directly proportional to engine displacement.... its all about what you do with it.

Big bikes, though do need to be taken a bit more seriously; do tend to command a bit more respect, and that can take a bit of the shear delight of riding them away, making 'cheeky' little bikes you can take more liberties with that bit more 'silly' fun.....

After hopping back and forth from the 750 to the 125's.. I find them more fun around town, longer journeys aren't so bad.. I love ragging the tits off the 125 to get anywhere Laughing

The 750 gets dull after flying past the cars... so yea.. i love riding the 125, even though I passed my test to get a bigger bike.. i keep crawling back.. that said I have a 50cc "mini moto" type thing in the garage waiting to go on the road Laughing

There's definitely an amount of power you get to with bikes where any more and you get diminishing returns. I think a 4t 125 is a little too slow for most circumstances, however, I think when you approach about 60bhp you start to get to the point where more power doesn't really gain you much on the road. After about 100bhp, you can barely use the extra power.

I've said for years that smaller bikes are more fun than bigger ones. I think that 100bhp is about right for general road use, and about 60bhp for twisty B roads.

Nothing wrong with wringing the neck of the R1.But the XR-SM has proven to be a lot of fun around winding country roads where the agility is way superior to the bigger bike - until I get to a straight bit, where the bigger bike has the edge.

I'd love a 125 again, not instead of the Hornet but as well as. Great fun around town and down the tighter roads. I do miss my 125, as well as my moped.

Come next winter I will hopefully have a cg or similar for the icy days

175/250-400CC are the limit to what I consider a little bike with enough fun factor, handling, performance etc (only 4 stroke mind).

125 4 strokes are boring as all get out nowadays IMO.

CB750, 75bhp; its a VERY good compromise; it's not got the sheer 'beef' of the 1000, nor the weight for long haul all day in the saddle, loaded with camping kit comfort, but close; yet its light enough to bet spirited with in the twisties; and not so bulky or restricted in steering lock and visability to be a pain in the kneck in town.

I keep thinking about 'maybe' getting a ZZR or a Black-Bird, or getting something newer, a propper muscle bike, like XJR13; or going the other way, and getting a CBR6 or VFR..... BUT, you know... all round, that old 'street-bike'... does pretty much all I want a bike to do, and does it pretty darn well...... apart from green-laning..... farm tracks and muddy puddles asside!

I notice this but most of the time it's a case of not being as worried about binning my cat C than I am my £3000 R6

I've found my 80 odd bhp Monster to be way more fun than the ZX6R that I had

I don't think those replying 'no' have had serious fun on a smaller bike.

I've only ridden a couple bigger bikes but the NS is the most fun, it's sheer mentalness as a 2t 125 keeps me on my toes, I feel EVERYTHING with it and that's a ride in itself.

The only thing I wish it did better was wheelies but in reality it wasn't designed for it, so i don't ask. ringing it's neck about town is fun enough for me when im stressing over some silly issue. Laughing
