Currently the xt600 I've just got has some extreme knoblies fitted and the're rubbish on the road and look to have about 100 road miles left on them so looking to change them for something, but ????

I want to cover a lot of miles on the road, probably a 1000 mile trip in the next couple of weeks and maybe a bit of trail riding but nothing too silly.

Would like them to last 5000 miles and be able to at least be able to go around a corner unlike the ones currently fitted

What are your suggestions and why?

AVON DISTANZIA
CONTINENTAL TRAIL ATTACK
METZELER TOURANCE
METZELER TOURANCE

I have Distanzia on my Versys. Comming upto 10K miles and still have a couple of m/m before hitting the wear bars.
Very grippy on the road. Not really been off road on them, only nice single track yorks roads. Performed well.

Metzler Tourance (not the EXP, the older type).

After mega mileages on all my Africa Twins, these were the tyres I loved, gripped wet and dry and lasted, I was getting 12k miles from the rear. Granted it was square as buggery, but that's motorway mileage mostly.

I'm assuming you have got a 90/90/21 like my AT on the front as the XT is a proper trail bike. I found that fronts wear at the same rate as rears when a wheel is this narrow, so I usually replaced both tyres at once. They also wear in an odd way as you will see.
