It is a great shame, but not one that wasn't already on the cards.

His WSB titles were "easier" title years, and after a good start in MotoGP he rapidly dropped back.

He's a great mid field rider in a classy field, and a top rider in a mid level field IMO.

Do feel for the poor bugger, but the time is right to leave. There will be plenty of broadcasting and media roles he can fall into to stay in the sport.

It's a shame for him, but yeah, he's been a long way off competitive for a while, now.

Haha...... 'easier years' What about Troy Bayliss?

It all went wrong for JT with the pre season crashes in his 2nd MotoGP year. Before that it all looked very promising.

Such a shame, but he might of never recovered to his former self anyway.

I still think he would of got there in Motogp. Just bad luck.

A real shame, he was a talented rider. Hats off to him for bowing out now rather than doing himself or anyone else any harm.

The interview before his last race was a shock.
Must of been the painkillers making him slur his words.
Good tough racer. Thumbs Up

I've met him on a couple of occasions and thought he was a thoroughly nice, bright bloke. Shame, but he might have enough personality to make a sideways move into the media.

Aye, seemed like a decent bloke, although also seemed very out of sorts at the Moto GP when they interviewed him.

Bit of a shame.

Tough, but his best competitive years did seem behind him. Nice guy, deserved better luck.

I remember him just starting out, he was an opening of a Liverpool bike shop ( now closed down) he had a broken hand even way back then. I liked the guy, a character and talented in many other areas.

Can't agree with the 'easier years' WSB title.

In 2007 he did the double at Brands Hatch (I was in the crowd Mr. Green ) beating the likes of Bayliss, Biaggi and Haga. He won the title that year by 2 points.

Great rider and by the sounds of it a thoroughly decent chap.
