A 14-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a motorcycle crash in Wolverhampton.

A 17-year-old suffered fatal head injuries in the crash, which happened when the motorcycle left the road at Rookery Lane, Pennfields, shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning.

The motorcyle, a black and white Buell X1 Lightning, was being ridden with pillion passenger and had earlier been reported stolen to police.

The 17-year-old was declared dead at the scene. Police said his details were not being released until his family had been informed and he had been formally identified.

The 14-year-old, from Wolverhampton, was taken to New Cross Hospital suffering minor injuries. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated theft of a motor vehicle.

Insp Mark Watkins said: "Initial enquiries revealed that neither the rider nor the passenger of the Buell was wearing a helmet.

"We now want to hear from anyone who may have seen this distinctive motorcycle when it left the road or being ridden prior to the collision".

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 0345 113 5000

Such a shame. Utter pointless loss. If only we could of done something to prevent it. Like chained the bike up, so it couldn't of been knicked..

Oh, and yeah, I guess it's a shame about some kids killing themselves too. Rolling Eyes

Stupid and extremely sad, we all do dumb things in our lives but generally live to regret them.

I'd venture to guess at at most a 6 year sentence - strong aggravation, but mitigation for his tender yoof, inevitable protestations of remorse, troubled childhood, Bigger Boy Made Me Kill Him. The sentence for blagging it will run "concurrently" i.e. won't be served.

So, he'll be out at 17, after serving an apprenticeship at Young Offenders' Training Camp, packing some new contacts and finely honed blagging and X Box skills that will set him up nicely for the rest of his "career".

And probably a 5 year driving ban, ho ho.

Being 17 i hear about people doing stuff like this a lot (just without the fatalities - dunno how tho!)
Just last night one of my neighbours was ragging his KMX/DT down my very short road, with a passanger He's on L's and must have been riding around with a passenger for a good 20 mins (came back from the main road 20 mins later) Surprised how he didn't get pulled/die.

And then the rest of young people complain about insurance. Thumbs Down

Just makes me angry how young people - despite 'crying out to treat us like adults' still act like young idiots and give the rest of us a bad reputation - expensive insurance!

He should get life if he was driving!

RIP Buel

You should have called the police, better he got a bollocking from plod who'd not be too happy having his time wasted like that, than end up as a nasty stain on the road that the council have to pay to have cleaned up. There'd be good bit less anti-social behaviour if we all reported it all the time.

Calling the rozzers wouldn't have done much. Not to mention i'd rather not be a snitch. If he was doing donaughts, or drinking a bottle of vodka and riding around the street without a lid - probably,
Paint diagram to show how stupid he is really...

EDIT - writing to small, but basicly a minute down the road is a police/fire station Laughing

Not calling them is guaranteed to achieve nothing.

During the riots I saw about 40 yobs gathering in a street, so I called 999, police were there in five minutes and dispersed them, if I hadn't "snitched" god knows what would have happened.

If you're afraid of snitching you're either a coward or a sympathiser with the criminals, be a man and do what's right.

Ahh well, look on the bright side....At least if the owner gets an insurance payout he'll have the chance to buy a "proper" motorbike instead of that ugly American piece of sh*t..... Cool

Im sorry, But that is a good reason to call the police. Calling them for 2 young idiots on motorbike going for a ride, i dont think IS, unless i can see them doing something dangerous. Sure he shouldn't have had him on there due to his licence but they both had lids. Not to mention the police station just down the road.

I actually live in quite a quiet neighbor hood, full of young family's and old people, so its quite and has one of the lowest crime rates in my city. I have called the police before when i'v seen some other idiots at the wheel of a van with a bottle of whisky in the other - he was too pissed to move so by the time they got there he still would have been.

Two kids speeding on a bike, I didn't even know where they where going. I dont want to be explaining that in detail to some cop who won't be able to anything about it at 10.30 at night. Sure it's illegal, but calling them would just have been pointless.

Always annoys me, that one. Bit of pride goes a long way.

I'm all for social responsibity, but I cant imagine any police round here responding to a "there's someone riding a motorbike without a helmet".

Mind you, our police station is permantently closed (except for being a brew room for the police from 5 miles away), so maybe that's just us.

Maybe it's cos I live in the middle of nowhere?
