Got tax renewal through post this morning for a car I sold a while back. I sent the V5 to the DVLA straight away. I need to phone them up but I dont have the name and address of the person I sold the car to anymore Thumbs Down

What should I do?

New keeper than apply for the V5 themselves if they haven't received it.

Tell the DVLA you sent off the V5, and are just chasing up the lack of a confirmation letter through. (You're meant to wait 6 weeks before chasing up the lack of a confirmation anyway).

How long ago was it?

It's not your car, you've told the DVLA this so taxing it is no longer your concern.

Depends if you received the confirmation of change of keeper. If yes then ignore it. If not then chase it up.

Paging sickpup, sickpup to the bun fight.

I might (but probably wouldn't) give them a call and hope to speak to an actual human (unlikely, but you never know). But be prepared to be adamant that you did post the change of keeper, and be clear that doing so fully discharges your responsibilities, as they should be very well aware by now. Refute any "you need to" statement from them. You've done everything that you "need" to do, you're calling them for their benefit to save them further costs in pursuing you when they should be checking behind their own filing cabinets.

More likely though I'd do that in writing by recorded delivery, cite sickpup's case and references, say that this brings the matter to an end, and that no further correspondence will be entered into.

</nearly went off on one>

I just got a tax reminder today for a car i traded in last week. Granted, they print the tax reminders 6 weeks in advance (it said on the form), (said so on the form).
Granted, the timing was a bit short, but I did have a quick Sickpup flashback, mentally girded my loins, stiffened my upper lip, and manned the feck up. Then had a Jaffa Cake and a can of Fanta.

Ooh, milk or dark chocolate? The dark ones are nice but to be honest, I've found that I actually prefer the Lidl knock offs.

I prefer tesco value ones, the sponge is nice and crispy Thumbs Up

But anyway...... I will call the DVLA tomorrow I think and see if I get anywhere with them, if not I will send a letter as suggested.
