Has anybody ever had any experience with these people?

I've never come across such an incompetent delivery company, in all my life! Confused

I bought a set of calipers from Ebay early last week.
The parcel was dispatched on a 24 hours carriage on Thursday, I was expecting it on Friday.

I arrived home from work Friday evening, to find a "Sorry I missed you" card, with a number to re-arrange delivery.
Perfect!

So I gave the number a call on Saturday morning, as their call center closes at 18:00.
I had a lot to do on Saturday, so had no way of driving the 57 miles to their office to collect my parcel personally.

So I instruct the young girl (Abbie) on the phone, to mark the parcel for redelivery, to ANY neighbor in my apartment block. There are 6 apartments, and everybody will be willing to receive my parcel for me.
I couldn't give her a specific one, as I didn't know who would be in, and who would be out.
But the chances are, somebody would definitely be in.

So Monday evening, I get home, to find nothing. Absolutely nothing from the parcel company.
Cant call, as their bloody call center closes at 6.
So I call Tuesday from work, to find that it was brought back to the depot, as I was out. Shocked

I had to hold myself back from going crazy, as I instructed them to leave it with a neighbor.
Not only could they not do this, they couldn't even leave me a leaflet to say they'd tried to deliver it to me.

I stressed to the girl (funnily enough, it was Abbie again) how important these parts are. (They are calipers for my track bike, I'm supposed to be racing this weekend, but clearly not now Rolling Eyes ).

She tells me she will speak to the driver personally, and tell him that he must deliver it to a neighbor. This is Tuesday morning.
I get home Tuesday evening after work, to find nothing, again, not even a leaflet.
Exactly the same situation as before, failed delivery, but he'd not even left a note.

I spoke with Abbie, AGAIN, and had to reiterate exactly what i'd said the previous day.

Wednesday, I was told, I'd get it delivered to a neighbor, 100%.

I got in last night, to find a leaflet saying that it's been a failed delivery 3 times now, and that it's been retained at the depot before they redeliver it to the sender.

Absolutely unreal.

How should one go about dealing with an incompetent company like this?

I cant collect the parcel from them, as I work full time, and the office is 57 miles away from my house.
It also opens normal working hours, which are 8am til 6pm.
It's also 57 miles in the opposite direction to where I work, so I cant even tie it in with my commute.

They've caused me mega inconvenience, money spent on phoning their 0845 number, and a general stress.

How do firms like that survive? Evil or Very Mad

It's not the company, it's the driver. He/she has a daily target of parcels to be delivered, in most cases its unrealistically high. So, driver goes to your door, knocks the door once, and writes you a "sorry we missed you" card. That counts as an attempted delivery, and doesnt affect his bonus.

Now, lets say he doesnt get you in and goes to your neighbour, knocks once and waits. Neighbour isnt in. That doesnt count as an attempted delivery, but has now taken him twice as long for a failed delivery. Is he going to risk trying another neighbour and not getting them in? That will have taken him 3 times as long and is now starting to affect his targets. And at this point, actually delivering the parcel isn't going to make him any more money than taking it back to the depot. Because, dont forget, once he eventually does get one of your neighbours in, he still has to go back to your door to put a card through to tell you which neighbour has your parcel.

Unless you specify which neighbour you want the parcel delivered to, you're going to be on a loser.

I always have courier deliveries sent to work for just this reason.

At least Parcel Force will leave packages at the Post Office which is just around the corner from me.

I fully appreciate what you are saying, but I've explained to this company that I live in an apartment.
The apartment block has 1 main door.
So regardless of who takes the parcel, they still come through the same door. There are 6 buzzers and all our letter boxes are in a row outside.

I can understand if he was door knocking from house to house, but he isnt. He is moving his hand by 6 inches, to press a different button.

He is then turning around on the spot, to put the "re-delivery" slip through my letter box.

Well no, its the company at fault for setting unrealistic goals for their employees and for not ensuring the employee does their job properly. It wastes a lot more time redelivering than knocking on neighbours doors.

But the company has instructed the driver to deliver to a neighbour. So with the information the company representative (Abbie) has, they have done what they can to get the parcel delivered. Its the driver who has decided not to go the extra mile, so to speak.

I usually get my parts delivered to my work address.

As for parcel force, they charge you for it to be delivered to your local post office (what a scam).

I usually leave a post-it stuck to my front door. Always seems to work, whereas trying to get some monkey at the other end of the phone to understand simple instructions (and then successfully relay them) is fraught with failure.

Formally known as the Home Delivery Network.

Changed their name to Yodel as they have such a poor reputation.

Tried to have some oil delivered. They took it back to their depo. I rearranged delivery when I knew I was going to be in.

They didn't show up. I rang them. They didn't know where the parcel was. I said it's lost then? They claimed it wasn't, they just didn't know where is was. Then I had to explain the definition of lost to them.

They then did a top to bottom search of the depo (that only took about half an hour. Laughing ) In the end Opie Oils Fed Exed me some more oil that arrived the next day. Also said they've had no end of issues with Yodel/Home Delivery Network.

Avoid at all costs. Thumbs Up

Can you get them to post it from their depot to your house via the Royal Mail? Laughing At least they'll have a depot near you.

I LOVE this idea. Laughing

I've gone pretty crazy on the phone to the girl there, and she's agreed to get it sent out tomorrow and left with a neighbor.
If it doesn't get delivered, then I'm gonna have to make the near 60 mile trip to their depot to collect the thing. Rolling Eyes

Had a feeling they are Home Delivery Network. And come to think of it, I had nothing bit issues with them about 6 months ago, when I bought some wheels, which were to be delivered to Rox's work (Barclays Bank). It said Barclays bank CLEARLY across the front of the parcel, and they tried to deliver it at 7.30 at night. Laughing

I've not had a problem delivering to work with them, although the caretaker @ the mrs' school did catch them leaving a package for her on the main road at 9pm since the gates were locked up.

Hermes on the other hand are an entirely different shower of shit. Every single thing we've had delivered by them just gets slung over the back fence, including (in no particular order):
4 4l bottles of oil (2 smashed and required patio slabs replacing)
clothes in a cardboard box in the pissing rain
a box of glasses clearly marked fragile.

Its got to the point now where if I'm using a new store I contact them first to check they don't use them.

I know its the driver in the area (some dozy cow in a xsara picasso - not a proper delivery man (or woman, i'm not sexist)) but you'd think after upwards of £300 worht of merchandise having to be replaced just from one address they'd do something about it.

If I remember rightly the one time that I had to get a parcel from Home Delivery Network was a hassle, they dropped my parcel with a neighbour then didn't bother putting one of the cards through the door.

Hermes is also a pile of wank, 24 hour deliver turned into 48 hours and I waited in all day for a parcel that was delivered at just after 6pm. If the parcel is being sent to you then they aren't interested in talking to you on the phone either. The whole day wasted Sad

Manged to get your brake bits yet, binge?

FWIW and prior to me working for Yodel/HDNL/DHL Domestic.

Had stuff delivered by them, arrived on time with no probs.

Hermes delivered my 2tb nas on time, left it with a neighbour and posted a card through my door.

But you all know what its like, people prefer to bitch about the bad times than to mention the good. Wink

I've never had a bad experience with a directly employed driver, bad times have always been with contract staff - presumably they're paid a flat rate for as many drops as fit in their van/people carrier/whatever asnd therefore don't actually give a shit.

Yodel used to be the HDN. They are useless, and I have had a bad experience with them in the past. Don't ever use them, unless you want high value parcels to go 'missing', or receive their replacements in smashed up packaging with bits falling out as they hand it to you, asking in broken English to sign for the delivery. Hopeless - they have a terrible reputation, just look at their reviews online as Home Delivery Network.

There are 2 types of drivers.
1. Have been with the company for a good few years, work full time, get paid the same amount no matter how many parcels they deliver.

2. Contract drivers, paid per parcel delivered.

Ordered flowers online once for the missus for our anniversary or her birthday or whatever. HDN delivered them at 6.30pm, despite supposed to be a morning delivery when I was out at work. And it wasn't a bouquet, it was a nice basket with different flowers, etc. Opened the box, and it was tipped all over the place, I was raging. Driver didn't give a shit. Fair play to Interflora, they refunded me when I complained.
