Cue the waaambulance pictures.

I passed my mod 2 yesterday (yay an' all that), phoned the insurance company to give them the good news.

'Congratulations' they said.

My policy was costing £181 on a provisional, to have commuting and pillion cover added there they wanted to charge me an extra £45 plus almost forcing me to buy legal protection for only £25.

Earlier today I checked on prices for a new policy and with everything included the price was £84 (from the same company). I pointed out the price and they said that it's because it was a new policy and if I wanted to break my contract it would cost me £171.

If I didn't sign anything then what would happen if I just cancelled the direct debit and called the bank to make sure it isn't restarted?
(I know it would mean I would need to go to a different insurance company anyway)

Cancellation fee and they would then charge you extra and or pass it on to a debt collection company.

pay up and they tell them to shove it when renewal time comes around.

Got it a few years ago.

Was with express insurance for the GT125, passed test and had a GS500.

Called to swap, wanting something like £400..

Cue me quoting online, finding one for £210 a year.. from express insurance.

Called up and said current underwriters specialise in 125's and i'd have to cancel and it would cost me. Think it worked out £25 to them and I got 1/2 month policy back Laughing Overall they paid me £9 Laughing

They've bought your undying loyalty.... no wait they've peed on their chips.

At renewal time, take pleasure in saying 'Nothankyoubyebye'

Sometimes it makes me wonder why so many people don't bother with insurance because you just get lied to and extorted for money at every given opportunity. Then, in the even of an accident/theft, they try their best to wriggle out of it.

yeah, I guess it's the only way.

Hmmm.... kinda cutting my nose off to spite my face.... but maybe I could have a bit of a nasty accident where there is loads of carnage (taking their legal cover of course), lots of expense and laugh at the damage I caused for only £100 excess.

Oh well... lesson learned

I was in a similar situation but my last insurers wouldn't insure me on the ZX10 and I was only 6 weeks away from the policy ending.

My current insurers wouldn't let me have the 3rd years NCB and it meant cancelling my old policy with 6 weeks left just so I could take the new one out.

I was going to cancel it because the 3rd years NCB only gave me £100 off the current insurance but I just left it and they never asked for it. I got my 3 years NCB of the previous insurers on 9th September.

I've checked askMID several times over the past week to make sure my insurance hasn't been cancelled and it hasn't so happy days.

You did when you, didn't cancel the policy after 14 days.

Stop the DD and the result as well as a large bill and being chassed by debt collectors.....
Is you will have to declare a policy cancelled by a ins co. Result a serious wallet raping over the next years....

Oh and in future, never pay ins by instalments..... They have you well and truely over a barrel, should you want to do anything.

I didn't inform the insurance company about my pass.

It would be more money to pay if I did but they told me it was a voluntary action and so therefore, I didn't update it.

In all my dealings with insurance companies over the years, I only ever proceed on the assumption that they are all, bar none, a bunch of totally self-interested, profiteering bastards. I have no illusions of any notion of loyalty either way and almost never, except under the most dire circumstances, change anything which can affect my premium, that is anything under my control. The only time I change anything is at or near the end of my current insurance and then shop around absolutely everywhere for hours if need be in order to get the deal I'm satisfied with
