Welding rods

Ok, need some stainless steel welding rods for an electric welder. Got the welder at work, just need the rods, anyone got any idea where I can get them from? I know fuck all about welding

Ok well someones just informed me that I can't get welding rods as such, but there's a wire or something. He suggested taking it to an engineering company and getting it TIG welded. God knows what he means

Your local Machine Mart will be only too happy to sell you rods, or a spool of wire if it's a Mig welder.

What are you trying to weld ? as stainless welding is a bit of an art . Its not like welding with stick you need an inert gas around the weld (Argon gas) wich i dont think you can get from halfords but i may be wrong

I have st/st rods and TIG and MIG wires, most serious welding supply places do them (they are used on pressure vessels all the time), look in the phone book or do a google.

So they do actually make stainless steel rods then?! I've had different people telling me different things Any chance you've got a rough idea how much they are?

you can get stainless steel wire but you would need the argon gas i think and possibly a different welder but your being a bit vage.


if you have an ARC welder they take rods no gas,

(anyone knows any better feel free to but in cos i never had any lessons or anythign )

what are you welding?, unles you are pretty good a stick setwill blow a hole through an exhaust, mig or TIG are better, both will need argon gas as well.

Well I've paid in full for the race can now, so it's at my disposal so to speak. Think I am going to get it TIG welded, it won't cost a lot, I'll take it to an engineering place. Cheers anyways
