On ebay this morning, royal mail have an ad running.

"Send it tracked for peace of mind"

WTF! peace of mind knowing it's going to get there having avoided one of their staff fucking stealing it

Why should we have to pay extra money to make sure they do the job we're already paying for?

It should be illegal and decent compensation paid out for 'lost' items.
They might actually do something about their thieving staff then

Funny how the only "damaged" items I ever get are obviously birthday cards ...

Obviously not all staff are low life, Probably only a tiny percentage but it makes a difference.

Especially when i have to pay their extra charge 10x a week to check they've done their job properly on stuff that seems to attract that bottomless pit that things fall into at the back of the sorting machines

Even their tracked service gives you piss poor compensation. You need to pay even more for the extra insurance.

I sent my tax disk back for a refund by recorded, thinking I'd be insured. All it "recorded" was that Royal Mail lost it somewhere. What did they give me as compensation? A book of first class stamps.

Would have been less offended if they'd just killed my dog.

They vary. About one in three of my Lovefilm DVDs used to go "missing" when I lived in London. Never "lost" one when I moved out to the burbs.

Leave the Royal Mail alone.

It is one of the few things that still has any semblance of what it was set out to be in the begining.

Trust your parcel to a courier.

First you have to find a place to send it from which is most likely out of town somewhere.
Then you need to take a day off work to await delivery as they can't even give a 4hr estimate of deliver times. They can but they don't/won't.

Royal mail is cheap as chips. And by a country mile more user friendly.

Indeed, it's just like when Warped gets his regular kicking in the pub, he should tell himself "Well, at least I'm not getting my throat slit!"

Recorded delivery and tracked parcels arnt worth the extra money at all.

If you want total security and compo, the only way is special delivery.

Its expensive, and we lowlife postman dont even handle them, they come in separatly from everything else, then they are scanned and given to the van driver.

If you lose a regular parcel, you get a slap on the wrist.

Lose a special delivery, and you have pretty much lost your job.

And what happens to you when you tear open people's birthday cards to see if there's money inside?

If you dont get caught, nothing.

The same thing as if you walk out of a shop carrying a 42" TV and dont pay for it, you dont get caught nothing happens.

But ive not known anyone ever do this.

If you live in a shite area, its much much more likely to happen im afraid, As the postman are sourced from the area.

I'm interested to know how parcels get lost. I mean in terms of what part of the delivery chain ?

Only your quote above suggests that individuals are given parcels and are slapped on the wrist if they lose them.

Not being arsey, am genuinely interested....

I lost a small parcel once ( i had a split in my mail bag and it fell out)

Fortunatly, someone just handed it back to the PO.

Nothing happened as it was an accident, and even if someone did then take that parcel, there is NO evidence it was me that lost it or took it.

There is well over 1500-2500 items i deliver per day, i cant remember all of them, i didnt even notice that little parcel falling out.

Truth is, unless you are caught red handed stealing, its pretty difficult to prove, thats why Special delierys are better for expensive things.

leaving stuff on the doorstep however, you do get in trouble for that if the customer complains.
