Thought i'd ask around...

Anyone had a close call this week? I've been riding around on a CBR125...if you can call it that Laughing Coming back from lunch today usual route back through town, through traffic lights as per normal..

Some woman in a merc pulled out, no joke about 5 feet from me, damn glad I was paying attention. Swerved round her, although lack of mirrors and not really enough time for a lifesaver meant I swerved into a Merc van.. literally missed him by an inch.

The woman however appeared to be very shocked... was waving shouting sorry etc.. so gave her the "its fine" hand up and continued riding, Merc van guy wound window down at next set of lights to check I was ok Laughing Called her a fucking nonce...

Could have ended slightly worse, but I thought that was pretty close Neutral

So come on, anything ?! Mr. Green

Weston Super Mare, going around a large roundabout on the 125 I'm currently stuck on because my ER-6f is still with the insurers....

Retard in a black astra pulls out in front of me causing me to do an emergency stop in the middle of the roundabout.

All had a happy ending though because the car behind him was a police car, blue lights promptly came on, they spoke to us both and he admitted to driving without due care and attention.

Still, having just thrown a bike down the motorway, I was shaky for a while after!!

Had a guy kick a traffic cone in front of my bike last week. Got on the brakes and nearly stopped but the wheel went up on the cone base and cones having very little grip I went down on the left.

Still, £800 compensation from his employer can't be too bad....

the route i take to work, i usually have about 2-3 close calls a day, today on the way home, some dozy bint decides to do 40mph onto the m4, im stuck behind her, wagon comes up in the left hand lane, instead of accelerating and coming on in front of it, she slams on, so i fly down the right hand side of her (to avoid going into the back) and nearly get wedged between her and an artic.

No, my last close call was ages ago - it involved a bint in a micra that was beginning to pull out being met with my horn and middle finger.

3rd floor flat (like to think of it as the penthouse cos it's top) ,can't get a window cleaner to do my windows so I'm leaning out doing it myself this morning.
Slipped and almost fell outta my own friggin living room window, nearly shat myself.

Not sure if this counts as it's non-bike but I felt the same adrenalin rush as you get from a near miss Wink

Had one with a cyclist, riding down a road had a quick glance behind as you do, turn back around an a cyclist has decided to cross without looking. Slam the anchors on beep at her and give her the "WTF do you think you are doing?" look. She dropped a brick when I beeped, obviously hadn't looked at all Rolling Eyes

Had one on a roundabout a week or so ago too, the started to go then stopped when they saw me, then thought they could still make it, had to swerve around them.

I do 200+ miles a week of filtering through North and West London, I rarely have near misses, if any at all. Although I do disagree with many folk that say if you have a close shave it was probably your fault (a cone flying in front of my bike might take me by surprise), if you having that many close calls maybe try some advanced training? Bike safe or something?

Better to avoid the close calls than get to close and get bumped aye? Thumbs Up

Near misses are a daily occurence round here. The old saying about you need to treat everyone else on the road as a cnut is true.

Not this week, but last....

Coming off a roundabout and a group of kids about 13-14 are crossing the road. As I come towards them, one of the little shits decides to launch himself in front of the bike in what I can only assume was an attempt to make me wobble and come off. They soon ran off when they saw me turning the bike around though.

Kids today eh?

Riding down a busy road that splits into 2 lanes near a traffic light. I move into the righthand lane and the old duffer in a Zafira goes left but realises its too busy for him. Promptly changes his mind, no mirrors or indicators. Cue me on the horn, edging into the oncoming traffic (luckily its a big road, had an escape route).

The lights were on red by the time we got there so I jumped off the bike and gave him a bollocking. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Coming home from my cracking ride-out yesterday, hit the big roundabout near Doncaster Racecourse at just after 5pm, very very busy, always indicate right then left at the 3rd exit into the outside lane, and the prick in the Scenic turning off into the inside lane decides he doesn't like how slow the bus is going in front of him so just fires out from the back of him straight into my lane about a foot in front of me. Luckily I was just going from leant right over left to the flip to go left, so standing it up and braking hard and hitting the horn AND lights at the same time was easy and surprisingly fluid (as was the wanker sign that I gave him - all my near misses and their resultant outcomes have all surprised me how automatic it was), so he's off in front of me, I go past the bus and pin it up the inside of him, give him a hard stare - no response - give him the finger as I'm slowing at the next light - look again - no response, just a solid straight ahead "I fucked up there didn't I?" stare, as was his wife. What really pissed me off was the fact that he was driving so erratically with his kids in the back. He really had no idea at all I was there but he MUST have seen me as I went round the roundabout, he can't not have, but still chose to cut me up.

Same bit of road, just before the roundabout while the St Leger meeting was on last week, I nearly hit a bloke in a kilt carrying bagpipes, who decided to run across the dual carriageway in front of me. He shit himself as I gave him a gobful as I went past...

Coming out of my new work.

Was on the roundabout and some young girl in a white mk6 Ford Fiesta (reg W88 ***) pulled out right in front of me.

Had to slam on the brakes before ploughing into the side of her car.

She then waved to me Rolling Eyes

Yeah, a very close call. I nearly got the bike out of the garage tonight, when i got home from work, but it started throwing it down with rain. 10 minutes later and I'd have probably got wet.

Was riding down the only good road near me between Chesham and Chenies, was stuck behind a fiesta for a good couple of minutes but I left space as he clearly didn't want me to pass. As the road opens up to about 500m of open road, I indicated, took position in oncoming and started to overtake. As soon as my front tyre was parallel with his rear he swerved across for no reason (other than to take me off the road Neutral ?) I swerved and broke, was less than a foot in it. My curses and gestures seemed to have no impact on him whatsoever.

10 minutes later I was on the M25 and a load of pink crap, maybe insulation, flew all over my lane from the vehicle in front. One piece hit my shoulder, another my head and a whole load went under the front wheel. I absolutely soiled my pants.

Donkeys years ago I had a similar incident albeit I was on a pushbike, the little sods were still playing jack the lad as I rode back towards them... until I opened my switch-blade...

Today I had to go thru a gap between a car and a large peice of plastic. Might have been a lid off a vent or something. I don't know, but I knew it wouldnt be my friend, neither would the car I was filtering past (a little too fast).
I succeeded though, hoorah!
