 |
|
A few of you who are on my FB possibly took notice about the problem I had whilst down in Devon.
For the rest of you - I didnt have time to get the MOT done before my holiday, plus there was a 3 week waiting list in my area to get one done.
I booked mine in with rear new tread to make it pass.
Took it down, passed with 3 advisories.
Gent was nice, very polite and had a nice chat about the bike.
I rode back to camp 3 miles away no problem, I then rode to Exeter, 10 miles down the road the rear end just wobbled with this awful (nails down black board) noise.
I called the guy up, told him the disk has worn away part of the brake carrier because its too close.
He was having none of it (at this time I had no idea what had really happened, could just see metal worn away)
He refused to pick the bike up, said it was a problem of my own and to 'deal' with it.
After phone calls from friends, they rang him and mentioned the MOT and to advice him to take a look at the bike.
I had to call the AA to come pick the bike up, it was unridable. (see pic)
Pic dose not look so bad, but its the only angle I could get There is a right groove.
Both AA guys said they have no idea what he has done, but looks like barrings have gone.
Got back to garage. Took wheel off, balls roll everywhere.
They had collapsed.
He asked me to pay £20 for barrings but free labour - took him up on the offer as its one thing I wont have to deal with for a while.
Now, I have an MOT for 12 months - but should he of picked up on them for being worn? Can they just 'collapse'?
Feel like I got a dodgy MOT & should I get it re-tested or leave it |

Looks like he left a spacer out when refitting the wheel after changing the tyre, casuing the bearing and caliper carrier damage.
looks like a job for trading standards and VOSA ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

If one or both of the bearings had colapsed or were getting near to that point they would of been loads of play which is a MOT failure, either way this guy has fucked up, bearing just dont suddenly fail without a reason. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Hi
For that to happen the whole wheel needs to have wobbled badly, or to have moved across a bit. Which suggests a very knackered bearing.
Bearings can go quite suddenly, but not often. Had one once go in about 15 miles from feeling fine to collapsed.
If it was on the other side I would suggest it was the spacer between the sprocket carrier and the wheel that was missing. But not on the brake side.
All the best

That is a spacer missing. End of.
I'd have told the idiot I wanted new bearings, free labour and a new calliper mount.
He sounds like a right nob. Yeah we all make mistakes, just admit it and offer the help that is needed to sort it out. ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

Had a similar thing happen to my front wheel, but no one else was to blame but me. Had bought a second hand wheel and fitted it, using the spacer that came with the wheel, as it turned out it was 3mm shorter than my original spacer. The result was a horrible screachin (like nails on....) and a bloody big groove cut into the hanger bracket.
So I would go with a hash job done by the cowboy who did the wheel for you. His next victim might not be so lucky! ____________________ XX XXXx

Not Satisfactory but shows at the time of inspection the bike is road legal MOT wise and in a safe condistion, which the above was not. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |
