5 year old, about to go out in the car: "Mummy, wait, I need to get something." Pause. Reappears with toy gun. "OK, I'm ready to do my drive bys now."

Hahahahaa, that's just ador- wait, what?

The parents can't see any problem with their kids (8 and 5) playing "drive by", or for that matter with them playing / watching Auto Homicide 3 or whatever they picked it up from.

Incidentally, both parents are coppers.

I'm genuinely not sure whether I should be shrugging and saying "No different to us playing cowboys and indians, Japs and commandos, cops and robbers", or whether coppers not caring that their kids are growing up idolising gang bangers is a sign that the End Days are upon us.

Go.

Anyone that over exaggerates a games name to make it sounds worse to help their cause is obviously struggling. You must know inside whether it is right or wrong.

My ten year old cousin couldn't wait to tell me how many prostitutes he'd slept with - and subsequently murdered on GTA.

If that doesn't disturb you then nothing will.

It's an 18 rated game. It pisses me off when parents blame games like GTA for things when they're the ones who fucking bought it! It's like going out of your way to buy your kid a gun, them when he shoots someone, blaming the gun!

As long as they are playing 'drive-by' with Police cars then I see no problems here. Wink

Totally agree with Frost. Games are now subject to the same laws as films now with age ratings. If someones pissy about a kid being effected by a 18 rated game they should also be being pissy about every film ever made that had a 15/18 certificate too.

Blame the parents / person that got the kid the game. Not the game itself.

To be honest i played 18 rated games when i was well under 18, and thought he realism and graphics were pants back then to what they are now i don't think it makes any difference. Shooting a computer character with a pretend gun is no more likely to make you want to go on a rampage than watching a horror movie is to make you a serial killer.

Some people are just assholes, some kids are little assholes. In times gone by parents had more contact with their kids and as a result knew what they were like and if they cared they tried to make them grow up to be decent people. Kids these days are, and are encouraged to be more independent at a younger age. They don't want their parents in their lives and their parents usually have their own business to worry about. So when the kid becomes a little shit the parents don't notice, then they grow up into big shits and people start looking for things to blame. We're all to blame but that's the hardest thing to admit or do anything about so in true human fashion we'll just pretend it's not a valid option

as long as the parents don't encourage them to take it up as a career I don't see a problem
my kids played with plastic BB guns as kids now they very rarely want to go shooting
or take any interest in the guns we have in the house
they also played "rape murder rob" games as kids and still do

Mmm, sorry, I think I caught a little Filthy Liberal bug there. For the vast majority of human history, kids have been brought up to be bloodthirsty little mindless murder-thugs. Dulce et decorum est, and all that. It's only in the last, what, 40 years or so that we've got this weird idea that we should give peace a chance, and raised a generation of surrender monkeys.

In my defence, it's not my fault, I was psychologically abused as a kid. My mother... she was... she was a hippy. There, I said it. Please don't hate me.

I see a lot of glorification of gun culture amongst kids, they think it is glamorous. I have seen the reality when I lived in Zimbabwe, it is not.
A cop allowing is kid to behave like that is stupid if not criminal. Point a gun out of a car where I live and you could well get rained on .

It is more the fact he was in a submarine than any games they play. And he looks like Warped. Shocked

Insightful.

I wouldn't have handed that mental a spoon, let alone an SA80. Sounds like it jammed after 6 or 7 shots, of which 4 missed. So it's true that they've improved it a lot.

Hate to eat my hat,i.e. my previous post but read in the paper today that a sailor has been convicted of killing an offficer on a nuclear sub.The press reports say he was playing GTA a lot!!!,perhaps ban these nasty video games on submarines!!!

Perhaps, or maybe he watched an Arnie film and got the idea from all the gunplay there, or maybe he watched City Streets (1931) and got the idea of shooting people from that....or maybe he read too many comics about the wild wild west and got the idea to shoot people from that, or maybe he read some history about the American revolution and all the gun action from that gave him a massive dick....

I seriously cannot believe anyone with half a brain cell thinks that there is legitimate reason to believe playing GTA or whathaveyou poses a greater risk of said person going on a killing spree or imitating what goes on in the game, and it makes me sick to my fucking stomach when they talk about it, in all seriousness, on radio shows etc. It's those kind of braindead cunts who need their oxygen habit curing.

A year before the shooting Donovan had told fellow seaman Andrew Love that he was thinking about the best way to ‘start a massacre’ in the control room.

He said he wanted to stage a ‘kill frenzy’ from computer game Grand Theft Auto.

Prosecutor Nigel Lickley QC told Winchester Crown Court: ‘The defendant just giggled and said he was thinking how to start a massacre.

‘He started talking about Grand Theft Auto, where you start a massacre and rack up points by killing.

The prosecutor added: ‘Witnesses said Donovan had wild eyes and the look on his face was of somebody who was in another place – like they were in a dream and they were doing this like in a video game.

Of course, the root cause is that he's a mental. The game didn't make him mental, and if it wasn't GTA, it would have been another game, or watching snuff videos, or reading Soldier of Fortune, or Beowulf, or the Illiad.
