Calm down dear. They die because they do a dangerous job, which they choose to do and are recompensed for it.

It's a terrible event, but they are not heroes.

Is TWh TerraWatt-hour in these figures? If so, that's astounding.

How the fuck is there half a death per TWh of solar energy ? I guess they're counting people falling off the roof when installing the panels....

Interesting.
Would you mind sharing your source?

That is an insanely high death rate for China, horrifying really.

Source: take 30 seconds to google it, I'm not your nanny.

Hero is as hero does. I wouldn't go down a pit. Would you? And if you think what they do isn't important, hit the power button. Any reply merely makes my point for me. Ah hah, that's you flummoxed.

Those figures are including the pollution from the source and production, I think the number of people dying involved in producing the energy would be significantly lower.

Songs for mining disasters.

#1 on my list is Alan Price - Trimdon Grange Explosion

What do you get if you push a piano down a mine shaft?

A flat minor.

I wouldn't go down a pit, nor would I be a steeplejack, a rig worker or do many other dangerous jobs.

Getting killed doing a dangerous job doesn't make you a hero.

I believe, in the UK, more electricity is generated from gas fired power stations than coal fired by a fair margin so the lights would likely stay on.

It's (historically) one of the hardest jobs around, whilst i do believe it's got a little easier in modern times, it still must be fucking hard graft.

Have a read of George Orwell's essay Down the Mine, it gives some indication of just how hard a job it was.

My family hail from the area around Shildon, Bishop Auckland & Spennymoor, and (prior to the pit closures) many of them were miners.

My Grandfather used to jokingly comment that 'Spenny were a hard place, as bairns we used to play tiggy with hammers'.

On an entirely separate and soft note, i really miss him. I named one of my sons after him, and if he grows up to be half the man my Grandad was, i can go to my grave a happy man.

My Granfather was a miner, in Murton, Co. Durham. He was once trapped in a collapse for 48hrs. He had to strip naked to be squeezed through the hole the rescuers made for him.

He understood that it was a shit job, which is why he pushed his kids to become educated in order that they wouldn't have to do the same arduous & dangerous job he did.

He had no wish to be down there, he just had no choice.
