Anybody been to any of the UK theme parks recently?

I am tempted to go to Thorpe Park as haven't been for god knows how many years and its not far from where I am. They have a few new rides since I last went and they have a new one opening next year. Is Alton Towers still better than Thorpe Park?

If you go on October 3rd I'll meet you there.

Thorpe Park has Saw the ride which is the reason I go, as rollercoasters go its awesome!

When you've been to America, you'll loose all interest in UK parks Laughing Different league, like comparing the premireship to a sunday league team

IIRC, Thorpe Parks the best one now. Alton has been far too slow to put in modern decent rides.

Spent a weekend at Alton Towers last April, stayed in the hotel and had access to the park throughout.

It's ok but if you've been there in the last couple of years then there's nowt different/new/exciting about it. The hotel is catered for kids more than anything too.

Haven't been to Thorpe Park but as far as the UK goes I'm told it's the best.

Thorpe Park is... meh.

Its the best we have though.

Queues are diabolical, go in school times..never a warm weekend.

Saw is alright, bit of a hyped up ride.
Collosus is again, hyped up but I did go on it twice Laughing
Nemesis is alright actually.
Samurai is fun, I lost a pair of shoes there Laughing
Detonator removed the Burger King from my stomach onto a chav child below... so a great ride Thumbs Up

I've never been. Growing up in Northern Ireland theres only one permanent roller coaster and thats just a crappy sea side one. Much the same as the one in Brighton on the pier, the best we got was funderland when it came to Belfast every year with a couple of coasters but even then they were crap.

Last time I went to Alton Towers the best ride was the corkscrew. This was before the days of Nemisis and Oblivion and being a coaster junkie I cant wait to get to a theme park and check out the new rides. (new to me).

Exactly.

When I was in Tenerife a couple months ago me and the missus went to Siam, Europe's biggest water park, holding several world records. It was unbelievably awesome. The heat was immense and so you could get wet in their warm water and be dry by the time you've got out of the 'splash zone'.

Wouldn't even consider anything in the UK anymore. Barely warm enough for a water park even on the hottest days. Ignoring the fact of how expensive it is and what little you get for it.

Stealth at Thorpe Park is great, the rest of the modern coasters all seem to be about jerking you all over the place.

I've heard Drayton Manor is meant to have some superb rides, but not many of them?

Hmmm dunno, they have apocalypse and maelstrom which are, imo, the best of them. The rest are all rather meh these days, drayton manor hasn't built new shit for ages. I'll be going there in a month with the missus so will report back my feelings then as it's been a good 6 years since I last went, although I do remember smoking lots of weed making the experience far more delightful even then Cool

Nemesis at TP is ther only ride I've been on in years (due to having a sprog).. It was very boring.

The rides at Drayton looked quite good, but again could not go on them. The best looking one was out of order ... The water run there could not have got me any wetter tho... By far the wettest water ride I know of.

When I was last at Thorpe Park Saw was out of order too.

I get on Saw....ride it, and then walk back round and straight on again.

can do this endlessly but Nemesis makes me ill......?

Yup thorpe park is the best, don't go the day after you crashed a bike though. That was torture.

The saw ride will destroy your neck, but it's a pretty good ride.

Stealth is the best thing there, took me a lot of courage to go on that one (not the best fan of heights) but by the end of the day I had been on it about 5-6 times Laughing

Nemesis is all right, didn't find it that fun compared to others.

Colossus was probably second after stealth

Don't do rides now. Don't like being scared. Embarassed

Last time was when they built The Big One. We'd been working in and around Blackpool on various jobs all day..wherever we were we could see it looming.
Decided to have a go...Queued up...Got in... and click-click-click up we went. Said to my oppo 'Van keys!... Safe?' Looked over as he put them in his undies...
That was the last thing i saw as we dropped over the edge.

Pat not like.

Didn't help that it was just a week after that incident...and the fact i would need to check the torque values of all bolts before getting on the damm things...Been on that Mad Mouse? Bloody support pole used to wobble...and the salt encrusted fixing bolts. Tut Tut

Gimme a 500cc 2stroke anytime.

Noticed my g/f comes back from Alton Towers with a stiff neck...but there may be something she ain't telling.

Gimme a '98 R1 tomorrow.

I went to B'pool to go on that Big One coaster. (as opposed to going to B'pool and going on a big one. Wink )

Loved it. It was the only ride I went on that day. I wasnt queuing for hours for anything else. Laughing
