Can anybody give me any advice on this?
I own a zx9R C1 and 4th and 5th gear have started to go awol, I figured it would be easier and cheaper to just get another complete engine but what I would like to know is can I put a newer model engine in, as this would avoid the known gearbox trait with the C1 and give me a better transmission.
Will everything fit or will I have to stick to the same model? ____________________ It's all about the ride.... |

You would need to check the Part Numbers for the frame (as thats what holds the engine) between the two models and see if they are the same. Most manufacturers have a parts 'bin' that they mix and match from when designing a new bike ( 79-83 CB750/900 all had the same parts apart from carbs, barrels, cam shafts and cranks), so you may be lucky. ____________________ XX XXXx

Later engines fit, or F1/2 gearboxes will.
I have a dodgy fourth gear, it's not too bad, but I've just picked up a 03-06 Z1000 gearbox to fit to my existing engine (It's a good engine - and I get to keep the same numbers) over the winter.

I reckon I'll get away with re-using the old gaskets, I'll see how it comes apart first.
Shouldn't be too much of a bad job.
Regardless, I know the rest of the 12,000 mile engine is good - No funny noises, doesn't burn any oil, etc - So I'd rather have peace of mind than an unknown second hand engine from ebay.
